Hiking and nature exploration in and around Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Saturday, June 14, 2014. Paean to a Walnut Tree. The walnut courts and conquers, but it also gives generously to its neighbors. Each year, the walnut doles out rich nuts to squirrels and raccoons. It offers shelter to nervous Carolina wrens and boastful bluebirds. Without recompense, the walnut encourages every passerby to revel in its shade. Without shame, the walnut tempts voyeurs to contemplate its ...E (Sep 2014):...

Angie in T.O.: EASTER OWLS
http://www.angieinto.com/2015/04/easter-owls.html
Angie in T.O. A small town girl from Nova Scotia, now living in the big city of Toronto. Wednesday, April 22, 2015. With Basil, a Burrowing Owl. One of the highlights from my recent Easter trip to Alberta, besides seeing my nieces, was being able to visit The Alberta Birds of Prey Foundation. I had contacted them in the winter of 2014 about the possibility of being able to visit when I was in the province for Easter, even though they were closed to the public during that time. And The Owl Foundation.

The Birder's Conundrum: A Sad Realization amid March Meh-ness
http://birdersconundrum.blogspot.com/2015/03/a-sad-realization-amid-march-meh-ness.html
Wednesday, March 11, 2015. A Sad Realization amid March Meh-ness. The landfill gulls are still hanging around, but not for long. Kiss winter and gulling goodbye. The dates of April 29-May 7, when read aloud, conjure up images of Prothonotary Warblers, Veerys (Veeries? Ah, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, I may miss you this spring. But it's not my fault, I promise. I'll be locked in my dorm room, wishing I was outdoors. But I ask not for your sympathy. I dream of a day when bird-obsessed college students like...

Angie in T.O. A small town girl from Nova Scotia, now living in the big city of Toronto. Saturday, November 15, 2014. I remember the first time my BlackBerry rang, someone was calling and I had no idea how to answer it! Email, text and Facebook seem to be the way to stay in touch these days. I do all 3, I like the convenience, and having the easy connection with friends and family all over the country. I could actually hear their voices and their laughter instead of reading LOL. Angie in T.O. I decided t...

Last August I went to see Def Leppard yet again with Brian. It hadn't been a year since we did the VIP experience. In Las Vegas, but when the boys are playing your home town, ya gotta go! Brian took all the concert shots and the others were with our cell phones. It all started with a couple "Liquid Cocaine" shots. Joe belts it out.

The Birder's Conundrum: Ferry Freeloaders
http://birdersconundrum.blogspot.com/2015/01/ferry-freeloaders.html
Thursday, January 22, 2015. We hear a lot about ship-assisted vagrancy these days. "So-and-so bird is crazy, so it must have been carried over on a ship" some birders proclaim with each rarity that visits our continent. This is a big deal - a bird that rode over on a ship would be non-countable, according to the prevailing view. Well, the truth is, there are some birds that hitch rides on ships within. These ferry freeloaders. They count them! Of the terminals didn't ride on that ship? They may have ferr...
