Confessions of an optimist
Blake Thinks...: July 2011
http://blake-thinks.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Confessions of an optimist. Thursday, 7 July 2011. What has become of my bedroom:. Invasion of "The Packers". It's my house after all, well, not for long. Maybe I should explain - tomorrow we are moving house. So, for the past week I have been gradually and systematically filling boxes with books, clothes, pictures and general rubbish that I can't yet bring myself to throw away (3 years worth of Vogue and Elle Magazines) and that I'll probably end up throwing away in ten years. Today we thought. I think ...
Blake Thinks...: August 2012
http://blake-thinks.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
Confessions of an optimist. Monday, 27 August 2012. Guadeloupe: home of the no worries attitude and falling mangoes. Well that’s one more perfectly ripe mango for the fruit bowl. This is the home of the no-worries attitude. Two butterfly-wing shaped islands make up Guadeloupe, Basse-Terre and Grande-Terre. Basse-Terre is home to mountains, volcanoes, black sand beaches and mangoes galore. Tropical rainforest cloaks the mountain range from the intense sun hiding waterfalls, rapids and lakes.
Blake Thinks...: January 2011
http://blake-thinks.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Confessions of an optimist. Monday, 10 January 2011. In that case surely survival instinct should counter-act this with the notion that medicine will help us get better? I suppose natural instinct cannot be taught about modern medicine can it? There are several options for someone who, like me, has trouble gulping down pills:. 1 - don't get ill. ever. pills are not for healthy people - unfortunately we have little control over this. 2 - when ill, pretend not to be, or that you don't need medicine. Of cou...
Blake Thinks...: New Year New You?
http://blake-thinks.blogspot.com/2012/01/new-year-new-you.html
Confessions of an optimist. Sunday, 1 January 2012. New Year New You? Has anyone ever literally turned a leaf over? If its the kind of leaf that we find whilst on the obligatory New Years Day walk then in my experience the other side is either grotty and covered in mud and other unthinkable things, or it is nearly identical to the first side. Is this cliche really what we want to peg our hopes for the coming year on? Does the reality tell us something about the nature of a new leaf? We might think every ...
Blake Thinks...: November 2010
http://blake-thinks.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Confessions of an optimist. Thursday, 18 November 2010. The bright side of obsession. For those of you reading this who aren't in the process of waiting impatiently to receive university offers, I'm sure you have obsessions too. A favourite TV show? Finding the perfect jeans? Endless to-do lists (certainly one of my obsessions that I share with What-Katie-Did. Whether its an all-consuming passion, or merely a preoccupation, there are advantages to obsession. Wednesday, 10 November 2010. Yes it has been m...

What Katie Did: July 2011
http://what-katie-did-blog.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Monday, 11 July 2011. Ever since I can remember, running has been one of my least favourite things to do. Along with tomatoes, small yappy dogs and Geography GCSE, pounding the streets is up there on my hate list. My mum remembers how, during my nursery obstacle race, I ran as far as the plastic tunnel and never came out, thus letting my team (the blue squares) down in a big way. In primary school, I remember dreading sports day, knowing I would come last in the compulsory running race. I was so pleased ...

What Katie Did: October 2010
http://what-katie-did-blog.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 20 October 2010. Gems from the school library. A bit like the school canteen, the school library also seems to operate in a strange, strange world. This year, I have been happily surprised by some good educational finds in there, which I never knew existed, and am nearly up to capacity on my library ticket. I know, I know, I do know how to have a good time. The worst offender I have seen in the library is this:. Today I came across a whole book on 'Christmas Food', which seemed a) a bit early,...

What Katie Did: Results Day Waiting Game
http://what-katie-did-blog.blogspot.com/2011/08/results-day-waiting-game.html
Tuesday, 16 August 2011. Results Day Waiting Game. It may seem unoriginal and clich é. D to blog about results day, but for hundreds of thousands of young people, this Thursday marks a terrifying, and possibly life-changing day. Of course, in the grand scheme of things, it's not on a par with getting married or moving abroad or numerous other 'big' days, but it is the culmination of the last two years of our lives. I can barely remember what being at school was like, let alone how my exams went. I ha...

What Katie Did: January 2011
http://what-katie-did-blog.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 26 January 2011. Crowds of people today converged on the same place at the same time. An angry mob formed, baying for blood. Shouts rang through the air. Innocent bystanders were swept up into the furore. There was very nearly a serious incident and the organisers only narrowly avoided calling the police. No, dear readers, all of this was triggered by a secondary school charity cake sale. And there were attempts to start a small riot on the edge of the queue. And sprinting to the office. It's ...

What Katie Did: News from the "City of Aquatint"
http://what-katie-did-blog.blogspot.com/2011/11/news-from-city-of-aquatint.html
Friday, 25 November 2011. News from the "City of Aquatint". Here is a little something I've done this term, enjoy! I'm now coming to the end of my first term at university - I can't believe that it has gone by so fast. Oxford is a crazy place. 'Town and gown' coexist in one strange mix of normal town centre and gothic buildings. Bicycles triumph over the car, tourists take pictures of you and it is not unusual to see someone in a flowing black gown and a white bow tie at 1 am. Paris Through My Lens.

What Katie Did: November 2010
http://what-katie-did-blog.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 24 November 2010. Today was an INSET day, a day off school for those of you who aren't in with all these technical terms. My 13 year old self would have probably gone shopping with my mum perhaps progressing to seeing friends by the time I got to year 11. So what did I do today on my day of freedom I hear you ask? Wild 24 hour party? Trip to a theme park? But it is simple pleasures like these which make life better, so here is a list of some of my favourites. I also love it when I put stuff in...

What Katie Did: June 2011
http://what-katie-did-blog.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 7 June 2011. You know you're revising when. 1 'Going out' consitutes a quick walk round the block or to the shop. 2 You forget the last time you wore make up. 3 The majority of your wardrobe remains untouched and you live in pyjamas/anything comfy. 5 No matter how hard you try to write neatly, your hands are always covered in ink. 6 A new Pukka Pad or set of highlighters becomes an amazing gift. 7 Your mum brings you a care package of a cup of tea and a pack of new biros. Eight cups of tea a day.

What Katie Did: May 2011
http://what-katie-did-blog.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
Monday, 16 May 2011. Exams, Revision, Leaving School and General Stress. Sorry for the lack of posts- it's that time of year again.Exam fever has hit the nation. Sales of cue cards and coloured pens have rocketed. Hair remains unwashed and eyebrows unplucked until one finds some of that evasive diamond, time. The library, once the ghost-town haunt of the dedicated few is now a packed temple for the worship of that terrifying god: Revision. I'm also leaving school on Friday. WHAT? Exams, Revision, Leaving...
