The Blushing Hostess Cooks: Just plain weird
http://blushinghostess.blogspot.com/2010/07/just-plain-weird.html
Saturday, July 24, 2010. Yes, it is plenty pretty on the plate. And this salad certainly made use of everything coming out of the garden this week. But it is a weird salad, the object of debate around here as to whether it is decent or disgusting. I say around here, as in, in my head, where I have these discussions with myself. Watermelon, feta, and arugula salad with balsamic glaze. By Bon Appetit, pretty on a plate, not so much on your palate. Posted by The Blushing Hostess. July 25, 2010 at 8:33 PM.

Wednesday, May 27, 2009. Greens and french toast. Sauteed Spring Greens over Savory French Toast. Adapted from this concept. Lovely with a young, green Sauvignon. And a stunning view. 1/2 pound asparagus tips, washed and cut into 2 inch pieces. 2 teaspoons coarse salt for the blanching water. 1 large bunch broccoli. Washed and trimmed of stems. 2 teaspoons sugar for the blanching water. 1 tablespoon unsalted butter. 1 tablespoon olive oil. 2 cloves garlic, sliced fine. 1/2 cup grated fresh Parmigianno.
The Blushing Hostess Cooks: April 2010
http://blushinghostess.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, April 29, 2010. Spicy Jicama, Apple, Melon, and Tangerine Salad. Just a refreshing change from lettuce-as-salad formulas which have become tiresome in every incarnation (goat cheese or not). Perfect on a hot day, with or without spicy food to go along with its cool, crunchy bite and seemingly made to go along with sultry dinners starring tamarind cocktails. Spicy Jicama Tangerine Salad. Adapted from Authentic Mexican. Rick Bayless (1987, William Morrow). 1/2 cup fresh orange juice. Finish the s...

Previous post: peanut butter crispy bars. Next post: pepita brittle. Spaghetti with swiss chard and garlic chips. October 31, 2008. July 14, 2016. Jump to recipe,. It is also a great way to turn something not exactly bursting with healthfulness–pasta with oil, cheese and olives–into something earnest, not to mention practically a one-pot meal on a weekday night, as we did last night. Cranberry, Caramel and Almond Tart. This is the best thing, ever. I am making it again this month. And again. 2 pounds gre...
A Recipe for Easy Pickled Carrots - David Lebovitz
http://www.davidlebovitz.com/2008/11/easy-pickled-carrots
Le matin après ». A Recipe for Easy Pickled Carrots. Before I went away for recent my trip. To New York City, as a gesture of extraordinary kindness to the person who I swapped apartments with, I cleaned out some of the scary things in my fridge. Nevertheless, she managed to find the African peanut butter, but curiously missed the luscious jar of salted butter caramel from Henri Le Roux. In Brittany. What’s up with that? I guess that means there’s another apartment swap in my future. With those handsome ...
Postmodern Soapbox: January 2010

Musings - Invective - Observations - Nominal Topic. Sunday, January 17, 2010. Respect the Vegetable: Ratatouille Sandwich. The Ratatouille Sandwich is a bit high maintenance but the results are well worth it. An earlier incarnation was made with a much more superior ciabatta loaf. But this time they were sold out leaving me, instead, with ciabatta rolls. Why respect the vegetable? I was inspired to vamp on it. Here is my version. 1 Loaf Ciabatta Bread. 2 Red Peppers (Roasted, Seeded, and Peeled). Cut tom...

Musings - Invective - Observations - Nominal Topic. Friday, August 15, 2008. Disaster Recovery Mode, Shop Talk and Crossmodal Detour. My hard disk crashed. Thankfully my mac was still covered under AppleCare so after a couple of trips to the Jacksonville Apple store my machine is back and badder than ever! There were three things that saved me:. The ability to remotely store, in unlimited space, backups of backups. Useful for when the backup laptop took a dive! TDM also saved that data. 8226; see more.

thick, chewy oatmeal raisin cookies – smitten kitchen

Previous post: red kidney bean curry. Next post: soft pretzels, refreshed. Thick, chewy oatmeal raisin cookies. February 19, 2009. July 14, 2016. Jump to recipe,. I woke up Sunday morning craving oatmeal raisin cookies something fierce. So I tried to make myself eat oatmeal with raisins and brown sugar in it for breakfast but that didn’t work, and so there was nothing left to do but to bake cookies. My life is so. And the thick but shattery, salty white chocolate version. I, uh, don’t always succeed.

Forever grateful for the cross :). Tuesday, September 23, 2014. The 24hr stomach flu. I'm writing this to maybe share to all of you who might be experiencing the same thing. When you're alone, don't know what to do and feel like you're dying from all the vomiting and diarrhea. 2 I woke up at my usual time for work, felt sick on my stomach (like a heartburn) but still went down and manage to eat breakfast and then i had my 2nd poop. 6 Finally deciding that maybe it's best to go home, although I'm a bit he...

Mar 23, 2015 Motivation. I haven’t made much art apart from some doodling lately. None of it was 100% made with intent. I’ve just been feeling blah. The naive desk clerk, however, was not that woman. Callum would, however, remember her name, Janine, and she would haunt his dreams for a time, at least until he met the next woman to intrigue him. 8220;Where you headed? 8221; the driver asked, not really caring what the answer would be. 8220;I do,” Callum answered. The cab pulled up to the curb ...

Saturday, August 14, 2010. Thing of beauty: Creative catering presentations. I spotted this at an event this week: Tiny - miraculously, still crunchy - rice paper cones with a gorgeous - and thankfully still cold - tuna tartar hors. Caviar and presented in a bowl heaped with white and black sesame. Seeds Like a sand beach for the tartare. Cones it was both a nod to the sea and a brilliant touch of flavor on the outside of the cone. Both delicious and a perfectly conceived. Posted by The Blushing Hostess.

Friday, November 17, 2017. I have no words. Literally. None. In all the mistakes which will be made in home decor, perhaps the most painful. The hardest to remove, and the least helpful, are words. And, isn't that always the way? This is the argument against wall decals and painted messages: It. Is. Tasteless. Let's be real. And tasteful. For a moment thought, let me envision adorning the walls with truth. If we must put decals and signage in place of art or photos, Ah, yes, indulge the Hostess. Thursday...
