Git tips and tricks
http://blog.mixu.net/2012/04/06/git-tips-and-tricks
Git tips and tricks. April 06, 2012. This post is basically a collection of things I think I should remember about git: setup, commands, multiple repos, more obscure options etc. Setting up short aliases for you git commands changes everything. Two things: enable colors, and make. Push the current branch to a branch of the same name (and not all the branches, which is the default). This means when you do git push, it pushes your working branch but not other branches. Git config - global. Alias ga= git add.

Restaurants in SF
http://blog.mixu.net/2012/12/20/restaurants-in-sf
December 20, 2012. I’ve been living in SF for quite a while now, so I figure I should list some of the restaurants that I like (the top 45 to be exact). These are mostly places where you can get food quickly for lunch/dinner and that are walking distance from where I live. The best coffee in SF (in my opinion); the one closest to the center is on Van Ness (good if you go to the Tenderloin for lunch). The other Philz in the city center is at the Caltrain in SOMA ( all locations. Between Union Square towar...

Node: References and Resources
http://www.burningbird.net/node-references-and-resources
Skip to main content. Periodically bursting into flames is highly overrated. Node: References and Resources. During my explorations of Node.js, I came across many excellent resources, references, tutorials, and various other online publications related to the technology. I had planned on incorporating this material into an appendix for Learning Node. But decided it would make a better online resource than a book chapter. The Node API documentation pages. Build and installation instructions for Node.

Writing about technical topics like it's 2012. July 26, 2012. For some reason, a lot of technical writing is still done as if the reader didnt have access to the Internet. Having written two books ( Mixus Node book. And Single page apps in depth. In the past year, Ive had some time to think about what good technical writing might be. There are several things that could be improved:. 1 Assume the reader has Internet and Google capabilities. 2 Keep it short and to the point. The easiest way to write a book...

My Debian installation tips
http://blog.mixu.net/2012/10/24/my-debian-installation-tips
My Debian installation tips. October 24, 2012. I used the amd64 (e.g. x86-64) weekly testing build. Rather than the stable build, because, well it gets me on testing without needing to do a stable install first and comes with more up-to-date packages. While none of the docs make it clear, all you need is the first CD (or the netinstall build) to start the install. At the end of the file, add:. Copy ssh keys over from old machine. Update and install packages. Amp;& sudo apt- get. Upgrade sudo apt- get.
