Living on Ink: Notes on a Writing Life. One writer's blog about fiction, life, and lesser evils. Sunday, November 30, 2014. NaNoWriMo Winners, Congratulations on Self-Discipline. I am quite capable of explaining in agonizing detail the infinite (no exaggeration) ways in which things/life/distractions/people/natural disasters get in the way of my writing on a regular basis. Oh, hmm, how about, let's start with the easy stuff:. Repairs (My computer is flypaper to viruses; I must purge.). Loss of identity&#...

Living on Ink: Notes on a Writing Life. One writer's blog about fiction, life, and lesser evils. Thursday, February 19, 2015. Grief is a Moment. Writing morning pages is supposed to help me lead a healthy creative life, according to Julia Cameron, author of The Artist's Way. Thoreau spent two years, two months, and two days in the woods and figured that out for us. Should the small stuff be elevated to the level of “precious”? Breath consciously, for it could be my last? Living on Ink: Notes on a Writing Life. One writer's blog about fiction, life, and lesser evils. Friday, June 26, 2015. Stay Stoned on Your Words. Does that word "stoned" date me? I'm not a smoker, nor do I plan on becoming one if the voting public in my current state of North Carolina decides to legalize pot, but I want to use the right terminology. Blog not endorsed by smokercoupons.com. What a freakin' shame.

Living on Ink: Notes on a Writing Life. One writer's blog about fiction, life, and lesser evils. Monday, August 25, 2014. Don't Judge a Draft. The time spent writing a draft of a new project is not the time to edit. Or judge. Or critique. Or in any way disturb the creative flow. Got it? Maybe because I've started writing again after a too-long-to-mention dry spell, I'm telling myself, willing myself, begging myself, screaming back at my inner editor to shut the shit up. Ollie, whose attitude I like.

Also being read this month is the The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson. I am thoroughly enjoying this book and find myself sneaking in a page here and there when I can. I’m sure that this book will be finished by the end of the weekend. This is the first time I’ve read Maureen Johnson, so I will be looking to read more titles by her. Read Full Post ». Do we start with Poe, Whitman, or Dickenson? Something more contemporary or even further back with say Chaucer? What poems do you like?
