The Half | Boston 2:55
http://boston255ink.blogspot.com/2011/04/half.html
Saturday, April 23, 2011. Brendan and I rolled through the 10K, 15K, and 20K marks like two well-oiled sumo wrestlers going down a water slide (hard to believe that there's no image for this description on the Internets). Like I said previously, everything for much of this race was going to be a blur to me, and this section was no different. I only recalled a couple of memorable items of note through this stretch.. I think we were finally able to relax now. Once Brendan dropped back, I took that as my c...
The Hills Are Alive | Boston 2:55
http://boston255ink.blogspot.com/2011/04/hills-are-alive.html
Sunday, April 24, 2011. The Hills Are Alive. The tweak in my hamstring at the half-way mark turned out to be a false alarm. I was just passing gas and something slid down my legs. No worries. I was now alone and running my own race. I got through the 25K in 1:39:48. Another 20 minute 5K in the books, but the worse was yet to come as I entered Newton. All of those repeats on Catamount Rd paid off as I kept up the same effort going over 128. 1 down, 3 to go. I also continued to drench myself with water at ...
Pre-Race | Boston 2:55
http://boston255ink.blogspot.com/2011/04/pre-race.html
Thursday, April 21, 2011. After dozing off for what felt like a whole five minutes, I was wide awake and ready to take on Boston 2:49:59! My bags were packed, the dogs were eaten, and the breakfast walked (Yeah, I know, I'm riding this joke like a dying water buffalo in a persistence hunt). I gave Rachel a quick kiss before she headed off to real work. She told me not to come home if I didn't break 2:50. Ah, the love of my life! My dad had the day off from work (supposedly he works for the only company i...
First 5K | Boston 2:55
http://boston255ink.blogspot.com/2011/04/first-5k.html
Saturday, April 23, 2011. The start was as fast and as crowded as I remembered from prior years. The one thing that I knew that I'd regret about this run, if everything went according to plan, was that I'd pretty much miss everything that happened around me. I was already zoned out and so focused on my goal that I didn't even pay attention to the early crowds and the party atmosphere. I don't even recall seeing/hearing the drunk bikers at the biker bar! That folks would be a marathon PR split for me.
Left on Boylston | Boston 2:55
http://boston255ink.blogspot.com/2011/04/left-on-boylston.html
Monday, April 25, 2011. The final, final, final hill on the Boston course is the relatively short stretch up Hereford before you make the left onto Boylston. I've cramped up on this hill in the past, but not today. Today was different. I still had something left in the tank to get me over the hump. Cut the tangent on the turn, look out for that pothole, don't turn too wide. 35 miles, huh? I should be able to do that within 1:40 with fresh legs. I couldn't believe how close this was actually going to be.

Running Again | Just The Distance

Thoughts on Getting Good. Milo and the Calf. June 16, 2012 by seanv2. I started the long road back to running this week 3.5 miles of run walk combination completed in 38:40 for an average of a 12:54 mile. It was slow, it was boring, but it was running, pain free running and it has been a long, long time since I have run without pain. Felt strong through the first six or so then the left PF/achilles started acting weird. Always something. On June 16, 2012 at 3:11 pm. On July 13, 2012 at 9:25 pm. Blog at W...

Thoughts on Getting Good. Laquo; Looking Back / Looking Forward. Training Totals Week Ending 3/11/2012. January 9, 2012 by seanv2. A new year and a new commitment to running smart, to building the mileage slowly; a commitment to being boring, safe, and to being injury free. These updates are going to be dull, dull, dull for the foreseeable future – some running, some time on the elliptical, some weight lifting. If I play my cards right, by the spring I’ll be running again for real. Monday 3.1 in 29:31.

Thoughts on Getting Good. Laquo; Training Totals Week Ending 3/11/2012. Training Totals 3.18.2012. March 13, 2012 by seanv2. In the past I’ve given lip service this the trial of miles Once a Runner ethos, but I think I have finally internalized it. If I want this, and I really, really want this, I’m going to have to come to grips with the fact that getting good is as much about being patient as it is about fighting through a tough work out. Thoughts on Getting Good. Looking Back / Looking Forward. January 5, 2012 by seanv2. That right there is my major goal for 2012 stay healthy. But me being me, I have to set a couple of concrete goals as well. I am trying to keep these modest, but challenging and focused on the events and aspects of the sport I enjoy. Third, run a 1:35 half marathon. This is also a stretch, but not unattainable if I stay healthy. No marathon goal for now. I’m not sure I’ll race the distance this year. We’ll see...The r...
Introduction | Just The Distance
https://justthedistance.wordpress.com/introduction
Thoughts on Getting Good. This is about taking the risk of taking it seriously. The way I envision this blog, it will incorporate four things. (1) interviews with age group runners (2) Standard training posts full of data on my progress and musings on my progress. (3) Larger think posts about the nature of expertise. And (4) journalistic type pieces about aspects of running and sport that I find interesting. Stick around, let me know what you think. This should be fun, and hopefully we’ll get fast. 2010 ...

Thoughts on Getting Good. Laquo; Training Totals 1/9/2012. Training Totals Week Ending 3/11/2012. March 12, 2012 by seanv2. Still here, still running. Insanely busy with work, but fitting in some miles and keeping to my promise to build the miles slowly and not get hurt. Last week was the first time I hit thirty miles for the week since November and it felt fine. In an abundance of caution, I took a slight cut back this week. Next week I plan to be back up over thirty again. Monday 1 in 9:00. Enter your ...
