Thursday, January 01, 2004. My name is Brian and I live in the Portland (Oregon) Metro area. I'm a dedicated, if not slightly disgruntled, government employee. I'm husband to Sarah. And doormat to Gus. Our cats). My family and I are active members of the Aloha United Methodist Church. In the Oregon-Idaho Annual Conference. Of the United Methodist Church. I'm actually the Lay Leader, though I'm still trying to figure out what that means. Why The Faithful Skeptic. At least some of the answer is here.

Friday, July 30, 2004. I actually listened to Kerry's acceptance speech last. I wanted to be moved, inspired, called to action. But I had to face the reality that Kerry really isn't that dynamic of a speaker. Thankfully, Edwards is. Kerry did say one thing that resonated with me:. And as President, I will bring back this nation's time-honored tradition: the United States of America never goes to war because we want to, we only go to war because we have to.". Lesson of the day for my employees:. I'm going...
The Faithful Skeptic: God's Politics??
http://brianpdx.blogspot.com/2005/06/gods-politics.html
Tuesday, June 07, 2005. I’m almost embarrassed to admit it, but the most exciting thing that happened to me this week was that the world now knows who Deep Throat was! The second text that Sarah read this morning refers to God’s promise to Abraham. The beginning of that reading starts For the promise that he would inherit the world Paul here is referring to Genesis 12 I’m going to read verses 1 3. But Jesus preached a message of peace, compassion and contrition. We see this message in the Hebrew Bibl...

Wednesday, June 08, 2005. I listened to a great program on NPR. Tonight - it was " Godless America. From This American Life. Who apparently was on SNL, does a bit from her one-woman play called "Letting Go of God." It was great. It felt exactly like where I've been over the last year. Anyway, I highly recommend it. Posted by Brian @ 9:11 PM. Father Jake Stops the World. The truth about social security! Its tough being a Christian sometimes. A word from our sponsors.

Tuesday, December 14, 2004. I'm taking a bit of a blogging sabbatical this Advent season. But I'll be here now and then. As I've mentioned before, I work for a law enforcement agency. We have a program where we have several chaplains on-call who are available to respond to people who've just experienced tragedy in their life. It is a great idea. Refusing to cooperate with an effort to bring on Jewish or Muslim clergy so we can be responsive to all members of our community,. Posted by Brian @ 8:29 AM.

Tuesday, September 21, 2004. I wanted to let you know that our cat Gus (the black one) got out of the house last Sunday about a week and a half ago now. I'm starting to accept the fact that he's not coming back. I was in denial for a week, but now I keep thinking about how sad I am! Para; 9:47 PM. Saturday, September 18, 2004. It's curious how much traffic I received from Brian's last post (Cheating and Spiritual Renewal) because he used my name as a link. No, Brian has not cheated on me! I love watching...

Sunday, October 31, 2004. It's a beautiful, foggy morning. The squirrel is eating our sunflower seeds, yet again. Brian and Claire are sleeping in. I cooked bacon and it smells great! We're having friends over tonight for Halloween. We still need to carve our pumpkins, but we've still got time. I've started listening to Christmas music already. I'm in search of French Christmas music, but honestly haven't been trying to hard to acquire it! Claire played with a little boy twice her age (1 1/2 years) last ...

Reflections of a twenty-something, Methodist pastor. Thursday, October 28, 2004. All right, I have to admit, I'm usually not too much of an Eminem fan. And I've tried lately not to be too partisan on the blog. But I think this Eminem video. Is worth watching. Good stuff. Posted by david at 10:26 PM. Tuesday, October 26, 2004. I don't know.
