A look at how we, as readers, are changing. My Views on Aime e Morrison’s “Blogs and Blogging: Text and Practice” →. I’m currently sitting here struggling to find words to sum up where I intend this blog to go but honestly there’s no way I can predict it. While i’ll attempt to stick to some form of guidelines, I cannot guarantee that I won’t go off on a tangent every now and again. Surly that’s all part of this anyway! A look at how we, as readers, are changing. The Age of Prohibition: Creativity on the Web. A great harbour of ideas itself and a site well worth taking a look at, hosted a Lessig talk in which he discusses this very idea of creativity. The full video can be seen here. Interestingly Lessig, a lawyer himself, points the finger at law when explaining that it is a field which is all too rarely drawn to the realm of common sense. If you gathered every video on Youtube. A look at how we, as readers, are changing. The Books Obituary: Young, Roth and the death of the book. The Age of Prohibition: Creativity on the Web →. Literature: The book is trending in the People’s Republic. What caught my eye was, in fact, a notice for the commencement of the Cork World Book Fest 2012. Which is beginning tomorrow the 19. The festival is running for 5 days and the events planned are set to draw in excess of ‘15,000 people’, in turn generating extra revenue for the city. Imagine th...

A look at how we, as readers, are changing. Monthly Archives: February 2012. Responding to Alan Crosbie’s Views On Media Diversity. As part of our seminar we were encouraged to read a speech Alan Crosbie made on the 6th of February regarding Media Diversity. The title of this speech, given at a conference in Dublin, was ‘Media Diversity and why it matters’ ,. Actually poses a threat to the coffers of Thomas Crosbie Holdings. More people accessing news from sites like thejournal.ie. When reading, I was fa...

Dónal Deery's Textualities Blog. This is my blog for the 'Textualities' seminar. The Age of the Database. I have just finished reading. The Language of New Media. By Lev Manovich. The book is an attempt to situate ‘New Media’ in relation to pre-existing media forms in order to define what exactly makes new media different from old. For Manovich, it is not sufficient to examine new media solely by utilising the same methods developed to analyse ‘old media’ such as print, photography or television. [1].

Kiss me, Kate. Alan Crosbie has it right! I would assume that what I am told in a lecture is true and half of what my friend tells me is false. What I hear on the radio is based in fact and the emails I get are fact. But what about everything else? How much of the information which we get every day is fact and how much is fiction? Not to mention the sheer amount. Tabloid papers I am not too fond of, yet when I see some of the headlines that they decide to go with I cannot help smiling. When it comes to t...

A review of Aimee Morrison’s Blogs and Blogging . April 5, 2012. The article can be found here. The necessity for something such as Rebecca Blood’s blogosphere ethics, titled ‘Rebecca’s Pocket, illustrates just how many blogs exist. The scope of her site is impressive. While such a vast project is admirable, it does seem naïve and idealistic to imagine her principles will not be quickly submerged by the waves of impatient newcomers. Morrison concludes by declaring that blogging has had its fifteen minute...

Kiss me, Kate. I really love the idea of Scholarly online libraries; I think the idea of a huge library being available at your fingertips is brilliant. That a whole library of information is only a click away! Price was writing about how the people that compile the libraries are, in a sense, in control of what we see. That some web libraries can be biased for instance if they had a specific feminist or anti-racist agenda then they would specifically choose articles that helped their case. Kiss me, Kate.

Well yeah, it kinda owns. November 4, 2008. Well I am almost finished with my website and to my relief, I have finally implemented a photo gallery to share my doodles. The gallery I chose was quite hard to get my head around and thus extremely frustrating to get working! I chose to use “Lightbox 2.04” by Lokesh Dhakar. Also, in order for my images to display how I wanted them to on my page, I had to implement a. Which made sure only the horizontal scroll bar appeared. October 29, 2008. October 29, 2008.
