http://jewelsofkenya.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
Saturday, 14 May 2011. Mombasa has a population of around 940,000, although it feels like an overgrown village rather than a thriving city. These are the symbols of Mombasa and are included in the city seal. Snapshot of the city. Typical view of the city streets. The 2 ladies in the foreground are typical Musli...

Jewels of Kenya: June 2011
http://jewelsofkenya.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Monday, 13 June 2011. Here in Kenya, President Obama is a HUUUGE deal, especially since his father was Kenyan. Kenya is one of the few African countries where being from the US doesn't cause resentment or anger. When I say I am from the US, people instantly say "Obama! With big round eyes. These are some photos from the trip. The Maasai decided to greet us by singing a traditional song and doing a traditional dance. Their song consisted of the men saying a deep-throated "HOOOO! Tyler, one of the other interns here from Washington D.C., decided to join me and the Maasai in our singing and jumping. I did not ...This is a...

Life shrinks and expands in proportion to one's courage… Anais Nin. My First Hospital Visit →. March 30, 2011. You wish you could erase the uphill battle they never had a chance to change from the start. For what seemed like forever. I headed straight home in hopes of avoiding Rueben, the overly-friendly night security guard before he started his shift. The many food options ...

Life shrinks and expands in proportion to one's courage… Anais Nin. My Buddies at the Fruitstand. The Cat’s Out of the Bag…. May 16, 2011. I have many notes and entries backlogged in my journal which I plan to still post. Many include some interviews with HIV clients, more stories from the field work and travel tales from cities like Zanzibar, Dar es Salaam, Vienna and Krakow. She was completely shocked to see me when I walked into the room and even more shocked that we had slipped this past her! For now...
