Once a Kid: March 2013

http://bronxmemoir.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Thursday, March 14, 2013. He's Been Everywhere, Man! Earlier this week, I was back in Portland, visiting family and friends. As Big Pops is both, we got together. And of course, there was food. My mother and brother joined me for breakfast at Bob's Red Mill where Ralph regaled us with selections from his upcoming memoir (When's it coming? Ralph read from a chapter-in-progress called "Fun Cities", briefly detailing his adventures in various cities throughout the world! Posted by Once a Kid.

Once a Kid: Big Pops Meets Big Beard (Updated)

http://bronxmemoir.blogspot.com/2012/09/big-pops-meets-big-beard.html

Thursday, September 13, 2012. Big Pops Meets Big Beard (Updated). I don't have much info about this photo except that it's from 1968 when Ralph visited California with his parents. I guess I can put a call in to the Kid for the info, but I'll just wait for the update. I'm pretty sure this is Hollywood and that is not Gabby Hayes (this gentleman's posture is too good). But I'll tell you what I THINK Ralph's saying to himself: "35 cents for a half an hour? Forget it. Too much! Posted by Once a Kid. The Kid...

Once a Kid: Naughty? Yes. Nice? No!

http://bronxmemoir.blogspot.com/2010/11/naughty-yes-nice-no.html

Monday, November 29, 2010. The so-called Satanic Santa was not always such a devil. He was just a cute li'l Santa doll when Ralph's grandma bought him many years ago. But the legend goes that one day a pack of wild dogs nibbled the little fellas plastic fingers off, turning him (like so many supervillains) to the dark side! The Satanic Santa LOVES you! Rasps the dirty doll. Ralph's brought him to work and many parties. Most people hate (let's say fear) him. But he's my buddy! I wrote a song about him once.

Once a Kid: July 2012

http://bronxmemoir.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html

Friday, July 20, 2012. The Official Back Book Flap Photograph. The back of the photo reads, "Our first apartment - 1971 - Ralph studying." I can't add much to this description, but I will offer my aesthetic impression. This is not only the greatest photograph of a human being, but I believe the single most important photograph since the dawn of the process. It might even succeed the cave paintings of the Chauvet-Pont-d'Arc Cave in significance. If it's broken, would you call a tailor or an upholsterer?

Once a Kid: October 2012

http://bronxmemoir.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html

Thursday, October 4, 2012. Get Your Own Cake," Says Birthday Boy! Has it been a year already? Yep, it's the Kid's birthday again! He's been writing up a storm lately (Ralph does his best work while on vacation, and in the last year he's been to Tokyo and Kansas, banging out memories by the mile). The wild stories, from the past and present, keep coming. Wait'll you hear his personal history of the Yankees! Posted by Once a Kid. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). About "Once a Kid". Basementing: November 2011

http://basementing.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

Beyond the Basement: IN THE SELLWOOD KITCHEN. Monday, November 14, 2011. Christmas in the Basement 1.0: Plastic? Don't eat it - it's fake! You shouldn't be eating holly berries anyway, knucklehead. Unless you're a dog. A dog named Jack. He's already slobbered on a vintage decoration or two. He's so dumb, he's adorable, as my pal Harry Carbohydrate used to say. Of course, when I say fake, I don't mean fake decorations. They're real decorations. They're real old. Do they even make things in Peoria anymore?

Basementing: Jumping (Off) Someone Else's Train

http://basementing.blogspot.com/2012/01/jumping-off-someone-elses-train.html

Beyond the Basement: IN THE SELLWOOD KITCHEN. Tuesday, January 24, 2012. Jumping (Off) Someone Else's Train. There aren't enough songs about trains. Sure, I bet there's hundreds or thousands of songs about trains, but still, I don't think there are enough. The metaphor of the train as it pertains to music is at once too compelling, too fitting, too satisfying. Toot. A train takes us from one place to another, the way a song carries us from one emotion to another, or circumnavigates the brim of a feeling.

Basementing: The Rain in Spain Falls Mainly on Portland

http://basementing.blogspot.com/2012/04/rain-in-spain-falls-mainly-on-portland.html

Beyond the Basement: IN THE SELLWOOD KITCHEN. Wednesday, April 11, 2012. The Rain in Spain Falls Mainly on Portland. I used to say, "No, it doesn't really rain that much, but let the bozos in the rest of the country think so, to keep them away." Of course, I used to be one of them bozos and I'm here. And I'm soaking wet, because it really does rain that much. Friend and author Sarah Royal. I was kayaking yesterday in the Willamette and, long story short, my thumb is infected. God, the sun feels so good!

Beyond the Basement: IN THE SELLWOOD KITCHEN. Sunday, February 27, 2011. In the Sub-World Kitchenette. What about the Sellwood Kitchen? Where will you cook? We were asked these questions a number of times before we moved. It does indeed seem scandalous that a couple of wanna-be food bloggers would move into a kitchenless situation. However, it turns out our little kitchenette is highly functional. Our hot plate, like, cooks stuff. And the mini fridge holds stuff. Crazy, right? Let's take a tour! Now, I'm...

Once a Kid

Tuesday, December 17, 2013. Once A Kid" Excerpt - Ralph and Red Cross the Country. We had a ride. My driver told me they we would all meet up at Bud's Truck Stop in Dayton, Ohio. Okay! Talk about rattled nerves! Our eventually making contact was remarkable. My driver finally left me saying that they might be in Indianapolis. Thanks a lot! The next thing I knew was we were making plans to meet-up once again. It would probably take at least eight-hours to get there. Right! Posted by Once a Kid. Sunday, Dec...

My Bronx - '60s & 70s

My Bronx - '60s and 70s. Thursday, February 01, 2007. I worked in the 7th Ave. building (top) from June 1976 - April 1977 for a company called Media Records. They subscribed to a whole slew of newspapers from around the country and I worked in the archive room, putting the papers in their correct slot, opening the mailbags each morning, and making a daily delivery to Times Square. There was a Blimpie's sandwich place at the bottom of the building. Mmmmm! Posted by Charles Cozic at 11:04 AM. Another reaso...

Bronx Mets Fans

Brave souls indeed. More than 1,350,000 people live in the Bronx. I would venture as a guess somewhere around 4% of us admit to being New York Mets fans. Monday, April 19, 2010. Out with the Old. Saturday, April 17, 2010. Perez had been in command all evening, mixing speeds on his breaking ball and demonstrating qualities – poise, determination, and focus – that are not usually attached to the volatile left-hander. The Mets hadn’t really figured out Chris Carpenter all evening – in fact it to...Well, hop...
