October – The Finalé. December 10, 2010 at 9:54 am ( Family. This is the story of Nastia Zaika, my grandmother, written by my Aunt Helen, and read at her home-going this past October. She worked hard and was her husband’s loyal right-hand person and partner. In addition to raising five children, looking after a husband and a home, she worked at Crovens in Whitby for 10 years. She was also a member of the Slavic Baptist Church on Bloor Street in Oshawa. I love you, Baba, and I can’t wait to see you again.

October | Musings
https://larisochka.wordpress.com/2010/11/08/september
November 8, 2010 at 5:25 am ( Culinary Arts. It’s October. I’m sitting in a public library in Oshawa, Canada attempting to calm my nerves with some soothing music from my earphones in addition to my minute to minute pleas to God for help. I wish I could have sent out a note sooner, but the last three weeks have been nothing short of veritable pandemonium – both inside and out. Some good, some not so fun. The puppies, however, are SOOOO cute! Would the kids understand me? Despite their initial reservation...

October – Part II. November 19, 2010 at 10:27 am ( Glimpses. Soon I was on my bicycle, riding down the dusty road with Melissa and Acacia, laughing because as we left our compound, I’d told them I felt like a mother hen to a bunch of ducklings, the way they’d fallen in line behind me. Mother. I didn’t even get it until they explained it to me. Um, Larissa, hens don’t have. Agnes, like most folks here, lives on a compound surrounded by a gaggle of children. (Have I mentioned how CUTE Moru children are?

The Daily Diversion | Musings

December 10, 2010 at 9:10 am ( Glimpses. I proceeded to the kettle and sink to make myself some tea. There I discovered that there was something wrong with the faucet, making it difficult to turn the water off. Hmm… I twisted and pushed until I managed to stop the flow and carried on. Enter: a new challenge. How should I sort out who it should go to? So much for ‘short, simple, sweet’… On a scale of average diversions and challenges here in Sudan, this was mild at best. The Winding Little Path. February 13, 2011 at 6:59 pm ( Glimpses. Been quite a while since the limeade…now I’ve traded pastures for the orange, pummelo, lemon, tangerine AND lime-laden paradise of Florida. But clearly, much has transpired between one citrus and the others. So here is the meandering path through some of it, started back in Mundri in December. Tension. Suspicion. Refusal to accept the results. Tampering with the results. War. Dangling around my leg as my hand holds her head to me. Happ...
