Building Our First House: October 2010

http://building-our-first-house.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

Building Our First House. Tuesday, 12 October 2010. Others.051] More scary news about US banks! Saw this scary news on Sydney Morning Herald. Today about lots of US Banks having problem with paper work. Hope this won't cause another "subprime collapse" of the banks. Main concern is, does this mean US Dollars going to keep going down? Building Our First House: Qantas' decision to ground all domestic and international flights is ridiculous!!!

http://building-our-first-house.blogspot.com/2011/10/qantas-decision-to-groung-all-domestic.html

Building Our First House. Saturday, 29 October 2011. Qantas' decision to ground all domestic and international flights is ridiculous! Got friends traveling overseas tomorrow morning, and we were all shocked to learn that Qantas ridiculously decided to ground all domestic and international flights indefinitely since this afternoon. With tours and hotels all booked or other arrangements been made, imagine how big the impact is to travellers all over the world! Will never fly Qantas again! I can't believe h...

Building Our First House: December 2010

http://building-our-first-house.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html

Building Our First House. Wednesday, 29 December 2010. Others.053] Is your upstairs window easily accessbile from outside? One of the neighbours knocked on our door the other day. No, it's not the very unfriendly one who keep throwing fallen twigs and branches over the fence just because the tree is on our side of the fence, it's one of the better ones and thank God most of them are like that in the neighbourhood. A few things I can think of. If you are still in design and planning phase, a reminder for ...

House Building Diary: The story so far....

http://housebuildingdiary.blogspot.com/2008/04/story-so-far.html

We have taken a great leap of faith and nerve to embark on building our first home. This is our story. The story so far. We are a family of 4 and this is our House building story so far. This is when the first of many visits to Homeworld. Began With the property details in hand we began to look for a house we liked. We soon found that not many builders are keen to build on a sloping block. We also found that the steeper the slope the more money has to be spent on sight costs. This made us rea...After the...

House Building Diary: August 2008

http://housebuildingdiary.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html

We have taken a great leap of faith and nerve to embark on building our first home. This is our story. The scaffolding has now been put up. The weather is not looking great for the next few days, so probably wont get much done this week. We spoke with our site supervisor and he reckons the roof should be on in approximately 3 weeks. He's also confident the house will be finished by Christmas. Yippee! Wednesday, August 27, 2008. The frame for the Balcony has been installed. Also all the windows are in now.

House Building Diary: October 2008

http://housebuildingdiary.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html

We have taken a great leap of faith and nerve to embark on building our first home. This is our story. The staircase has also been put in. This was pleasant surprise, we weren't expecting it to be put in for a while yet. We're really pleased with how it looks. It should be really nice once it's been stained and varnished. There will be a doorway put here for under stair storage. Tuesday, October 28, 2008. We went to the house again on Tuesday evening and all the cornice had been put up. Another issue we ...

House Building Diary: June 2009

http://housebuildingdiary.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html

We have taken a great leap of faith and nerve to embark on building our first home. This is our story. Front entrance floor tiles. We finally got around to laying the floor tiles at the front entrance. We thought we would have a go at doing it ourselves as we were a bit disappointed with some of the tiling inside the house and thought we could do better. Well now was a chance for us to to see if we could, or eat our words. Here's the entrance before we started. We started laying the tiles.

House Building Diary: Retaining wall

http://housebuildingdiary.blogspot.com/2009/03/retaining-wall.html

We have taken a great leap of faith and nerve to embark on building our first home. This is our story. We managed to get the side retaining wall finished today. It's a dry block wall which does not need morter to hold it together. We had to dig a trench at the front of our block of land as this is the highest part. This enabled us to get the wall level all the way down the side of the house. The wall was laid on a bed of Roadbase and levelled using river sand. Thursday, March 05, 2009. This blog is our w...

House Building Diary: Decking

http://housebuildingdiary.blogspot.com/2009/02/decking.html

We have taken a great leap of faith and nerve to embark on building our first home. This is our story. We have finished the main part of the deck now. We used treated pine for the frame and the deck boards are Merbau hardwood 90x19mm. Here is a break down of how it progressed. We had already dug the holes for the posts which would hold the frame of the deck. We had to remove some excess soil so that the frame would be sitting off the ground. Here the first bearer has been bolted to the house. Http:/ buil...

House Building Diary: Stepping stone pavers

http://housebuildingdiary.blogspot.com/2009/03/stepping-stone-pavers.html

We have taken a great leap of faith and nerve to embark on building our first home. This is our story. We finished the stepping stone pavers at the side of the house today. The roadbase had been put down a few weeks ago when we did the retaining wall. We then had to screed a layer of river sand for the pavers to be laid on. The area under the window will be a flower bed. Here it is all finished. Friday, March 27, 2009. Are you doing all the landscaping yourself or did you get landscaper to do it? This bl...

House Building Diary: July 2008

http://housebuildingdiary.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html

We have taken a great leap of faith and nerve to embark on building our first home. This is our story. The work on the storm water drainage started on Monday. The pipework for the drainage was installed and we also arranged for the pipework from the driveway and water tank to be installed at the same time. It was far easier to do this now, at slab stage, rather than wait until the house was built. The next day we started putting various things into the pit. First of all a layer of course river sand.

Building Our Dream Home

Building Our Dream Home. Adventures in building a new house in Sydney. A lot has been happening lately. So we decided to just use a different colour brick for the portico to provide a contrast. We selected PGH Greenway. I say "selected" rather than "agreed" because after three visits to Schofields, we still couldn't agree on a colour. In the end, I was worn down by the fact that we had to make a decision and we didn't seem to be making any progress. Ghost loves it. I. don't. I can't remember where we lea...
