Barrett's Blog: Email Bankruptcy
http://bwslog.blogspot.com/2008/03/email-bankruptcy.html
Wednesday, March 12, 2008. I'm thinking of declaring email bankruptcy. Lawrence Lessig did this. A few years back when his unread message pile grew beyond a certain point. He simply hit the "Mark all as read" button and called it a day. I'm up to 376 unread messages. It might be time for drastic action. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Songs i'm listening to. Barrett's Blog: I Break My Silence...and My Wrist
http://bwslog.blogspot.com/2008/06/i-break-my-silenceand-my-wrist.html
Wednesday, June 11, 2008. I Break My Silence.and My Wrist. It's been a long time since I've written, so I'm breaking my silence to report that I've broken my wrist. Playing softball of all things. God this is embarrassing. And we even practiced! June 19, 2008 at 10:58 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Songs i'm listening to. View my complete profile.
Barrett's Blog: July 2007
http://bwslog.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html
Friday, July 27, 2007. Is Free Speech Bad For Us? Last night I was reading last week's New Yorker article on the protests in Pakistan. Where the military dictator, Pervez Musharraf, recently sacked the country's Chief Justice without cause. Thousands of lawyers, students, and other pro-democracy protesters took to the streets, and the judge was eventually reinstated. And hidden behind a rabid, reactionary "base." They've hired sycophants. And pocketed the right politicians. So now, scream as we might, it...

Monday, October 01, 2007. Joel Stein is Plagiarizing Me. Okay, the title's not really true, but there are some amazing similarities between Stein's recent piece in Time. And my last feature in Stanford magazine. Me describing Wansink: ". with his high brow,. Rimless glasses and mischievous smirk, [he] looks a little like a high school chemistry teacher.". Stein describing Wansink: He "has all the nerdlike characteristics you'd expect from a mad professor.". Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
Barrett's Blog: Sticks and stones
http://bwslog.blogspot.com/2008/06/sticks-and-stones.html
Wednesday, June 25, 2008. What an age we live in, huh? Not only can trained medical professionals send a calculated dose of electromagnetic radiation through my body, revealing the bones beneath my flesh, but I can possess a small, omnipresent camera with which to photograph said revealed bones. This morning, when nurses removed the bandages to take out a small drain that had been in place since surgery, was the first time I saw the surgical wound. It was also the first time I have ever been nauseous.

Orange You Glad: November 2007
http://orangeteplait.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html
I came back to the US? Tuesday, November 13, 2007. Is This Thing ON? And, A Morality Tale. Is anybody still there? I never post anymore. I'm sorry. I'm working. Had le Boy here. Trying to be an Adult. Also, I am a mentor here. I won't go into the ick-ness of Dental HMO's, and wanting a dentist who wears a shirt under his dentist smock. Let me just say, I could be buying a used 2004 Jetta. Instead, I will be having my teeth fixed. Two root canals and several fillings. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
Orange You Glad: February 2009
http://orangeteplait.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
I came back to the US? Thursday, February 12, 2009. My body is a cage. There's an Arcade Fire song called "My Body Is a Cage," that I can't stop listening to. It's depressing but wonderful. I hope this widget thing I embedded works. I'm slipping back into the Human Condition these days. Not embodying it (we all always do that), but letting it be explored, intelligently, for me in the books I read and the things I watch and the songs I listen to. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). My body is a cage.
Crooked Spectacles: Phunk the Climate

Thursday, April 19, 2007. Earlier this week, Lee. Made a quick visit to the District; he was on short-term loan from Cambodia and the Clinton Foundation HIV/AIDS Initiative. Triggered by the presence of a real live person direct from Asia, I had the most brilliant idea I'd had in literally ( literally. Goodbye, dirty, global warming-causing fossil fuels! Why hasn't anyone thought of this before? Play the ukulele and rap. (Jon, loyal readers, works for an environmental consulting group which sublets o...
Orange You Glad: December 2007
http://orangeteplait.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html
I came back to the US? Monday, December 17, 2007. Now, I'm not a fan of poetry, especially not found poetry, but there was something delicate and awesome in this sign someone papered the telephone poles with, up and down my street. How does one recognize the rodent sniffing your garbage as someone else's beloved pet? What if the rat you found was not a pet? Would you assume that someone else might want it, warranting a micro-pr campaign? I tried to make a haiku out of it:. A rat (pet) found sign. However...

Crooked Spectacles: August 2007
http://crookedspecs.blogspot.com/2007_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 23, 2007. I apologize, fair readers, for my extended absence. [Editor's note: I am well aware that the longevity of my stint on the disabled list has, in all likelihood, depleted my readership to. well, just myself.] I've been putting off posting until I had something (anything! Of intrigue to report. But alas, as my (f)unemployment drags on, I've come to the realization that intrigue may be a while off yet. So let's catch you up to my goings-on, shall we? Yeah, I thought not.).
Crooked Spectacles: *sigh*

Saturday, June 9, 2007. You know, Hobbes, some days even my lucky rocketship underpants don't help. This a picture of me after getting caught in what weather.com calls a "severe scattered storm." Orange You Glad: Big Sting
http://orangeteplait.blogspot.com/2009/03/big-sting.html
I came back to the US? Wednesday, March 04, 2009. I tried to record a tv show called "Bee Sting," but it turns out it was called "Big Sting," and it was about, like, fraking manta rays, and not bees. I'm in the mood for a little Borges. Before we spring forward. Sometimes in the afternoons, a face looks out at us from the depths of a mirror. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Orange You Glad: October 2007
http://orangeteplait.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html
I came back to the US? Saturday, October 13, 2007. Last night, my parents came to my hood for dinner. Rushed for time, I pulled Ago off yelp.com, because my dad wanted to eat Italian food. I found it so hard to enjoy my overpriced pasta and chianti when considering how this place made me feel. Was it a feather in LA cap? What if the people at my work ever stop talking about Kraft, and start talking about Ago, would I be smug about have the skinny on the place? Why do I need to build a cool roster, anyway?

Sunday, November 23, 2008. I think we're close to the bottom. If you work on the assumption that the growth of the first period was more rational and sustainable over the long run, and the growth of the second period was mere froth, then you'd expect the market to collapse until it was roughly back in line with the long-term growth average consistent with the first period. The market closed in that range several days last week. Does that mean we've hit the bottom? I think the answer is yes, more or less&...
