http://garysmailes.typepad.com/gary_smailes/2008/04/were-shield-wal.html
Laquo; Digital Penguins and history e-books. Field of Glory ». April 21, 2008. Were shield walls the best option? I am currently re-reading The Conquest of Gaul by Caesar. Well, I am actually listening to it on audio but lets not get pedantic. I came across this section where Caesar is talking about driving Ariovistus. THE CONQUEST OF GAUL, II, 2. This account is from a battle in 57 B.C. and clearly describes a shield wall formation and this got me thinking. Wiki article offers a bit more of an insight.

Laquo; Were shield walls the best option? Do I need a website? April 23, 2008. Yesterday I acquired a copy of Osprey's new wargame rules - Field of Glory. I read them late last night and early this morning and wanted to give my thoughts as a writer and historian. OK - to the book. Here's my thought based on the rules without actually playing a game (I would love to play but without an army it seems a bit hard). The pictures and illustrations are simply amazing! I also got hold of a copy of the army lists...

Laquo; Contested Boundaries. May 04, 2008. William the Bastard at War again. Post I discussed the events leading up to the Battle of Hastings 1066. William landed unopposed, established two Motte and Bailey castles and then set about ravaging the surrounding countryside. Intimidate enemy strongholds into surrender,. I suspect Mori...

Dark Ages Wargames Armies: Conquest Games Plastic Normans: 1
http://darkageswab.blogspot.com/2010/11/conquest-games-plastic-normans-1.html
Dark Ages Wargames Armies. Thursday, November 25, 2010. Conquest Games Plastic Normans: 1. I hope to assemble some at the weekend but first thought I would see what is in the box. The box itself is servicable (certainly not up to Immortal standards! But, not that it really matters, the cover painting is a bit weak. The back of the box shows some painted figures done with the dreaded Army Painter but at least it gives me a target! The standard sprue contains:. Three right arms holding swords. One left arm...

Dark Ages Wargames Armies: Dux Britanniarum
http://darkageswab.blogspot.com/2012/08/dux-britanniarum.html
Dark Ages Wargames Armies. Tuesday, August 28, 2012. I was in Orc's Nest today and picked up the new Dux Britanniarum. Rules by the appallingly named Too Fat Lardies. They also had the new Osprey Dux Bellorum. Rules as well but I only noticed those in the window after I had left the shop. It seems odd that two Arthurian period sets of rules should appear so close together and with such similar names. The games look fundamentally different, however. Lets try to get our Dux in a row. It's hard to get a fee...
