Rogue's View: March 2013

http://roguesview.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Observations from the Left Coast. Sunday, March 31, 2013. When I left for work yesterday a friend said, “I hope you have some magic in your day with work.” I thought it was serendipitous because I had just written about the desire to have magic in my day and life as part of my morning writing exercise. So, of course, all day long I kept waiting for that magic moment and missed it. Links to this post. Wednesday, March 27, 2013. How beautiful it is. For good and bad. Her more than she. Thing to be taken.

Rogue's View: A ruckus of wings

http://roguesview.blogspot.com/2013/06/what-ruckus.html

Observations from the Left Coast. Tuesday, June 18, 2013. A ruckus of wings. I heard a ruckus outside my bedroom window in the last bit of twilight. It sounded like someone clumsily flapping the pages of an oversized newspaper. But who does that any more? I went to the window and peered into the shadows of sycamore trees silhouetted against the final silver light. In the shadows below I saw little. Man, what a ruckus! Sunday, May 31, 2015. Parting Shots: The Penultimate Papers. I Need a Nap. A friend sent me a copy of Tom Brokaw’s “A Lucky Life Interrupted.” (A good read by the way) And I was oddly comforted to read that pancreatic cancer strikes one in seventy-eight men and women. My peeps! It sure must have taken my Docs by surprise. They must feel awful, as in Well, Dang! But then, maybe not. So far, I have refrained from calling them up to say, “I told you I was sick.” That would be churlish. In my case, there wer...

http://calhounscannon.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

Sunday, July 27, 2014. Saturday, July 26, 2014. In a world that finds it so easy to kill - planes shot out of the sky, refugee centers shelled, suicide bombers sending body parts flying everywhere -– our prison system is having a heck of a time executing its prisoners on death row. And that begs the question: Is this sorry S.O.B. worth. Which raises a final question: Is our whole justice system “cruel and unusual? 8221; Then maybe that’s what we should. Joseph R. Wood III. Texas capital punishment cases.

Calhouns Can(n)ons: Archibald McDog

http://calhounscannon.blogspot.com/2015/04/archibald-mcdog.html

Saturday, April 11, 2015. Calhoun's Cannons for April 11, 2015. He had no brakes. Full of wild enthusiasms, he ran at everything full tilt. Two speeds: Zero and Oh, No! Nothing in between. Bang his food dish and in a split second he would ramp himself up into panting Full Crazy. Pick up the leash and he was at the door, engine roaring. He had no manners, either. And didn't speak or understand "Dog" very well, which made every social encounter with other dogs fraught with peril. Oh, look, a squirrel!

Which reminds me, due to the drought, I have not had any snails eating up the succulents in my yard like they usually do (and I am not talking Shoulderband snails, which do not eat your plants, but the common ones you see, or used to see, everywhere). 4:18 PM, May 16, 2015. Sunday, March 15, 2015. What more can we ask than to never know what to expect. Sunday, March 08, 2015. Thursday, March 05, 2015. When I first read Joe Tarica’s column on our beautiful bridge bear being vandalized, I had a flame of anger. Then I felt a wave of fatigue and thought, Oh, why bother? Thinking somehow that this act of stupidity will improve their lives. Give them some momentary triumph until the sad reality of their looser existence returns. It’s a dull story, retold all around the worl...

Rogue's View: January 2013

http://roguesview.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Observations from the Left Coast. Tuesday, January 8, 2013. You from around here? I met a longtime resident at the local bar the other night who challenged me on just about everything from the moment I walked in. 8220;You live around here? Sure, I said. He introduced me to his wife of 40-plus years, a beauty, stately and queenly. He told me she’s from a long line of settlers who moved here in the 19th century. She smiled at me, like a queen. 8220;You met her in here? 8221; he challenged. Thurston, I said...
