Calum Chamberlain-Cyclist: This Is England

http://www.calumchamberlaincyclist.blogspot.com/2012/04/this-is-england.html

A blog about my bikes, racing, riding and exploring. Thursday, April 12, 2012. Listening to BBC radio 4 on the drive up to Leeds today I was reminded of my mental turmoil when it comes to thinking about my home. There are so many things I love about England and Britain, but recently, when weighing up the pros and cons of this nation the negatives far outweigh the positives. I don't see my immediate future here and I'm not sure I would want to come back for good. This is a political rant.

Latin American misadventures.: October 2011

http://haywardinsa.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

A little record of my time in the continent of South America. Tuesday, October 25, 2011. I headed out to Lake Titicaca fairly quickly after arriving in La Paz. The drive was scenic and the actual lake startlingly impressive. It is the largest high altitude in the world and with good reason as it looks like an ocean to the uninformed – you cannot see anywhere close to across the thing. South end of Isla del Sol. Monday, October 24, 2011. It has to be said up front that Sucre is an exceptionally beautiful ...

A little record of my time in the continent of South America. Monday, January 30, 2012. Volunteering at PSF, part three. There is another side to PSF as well, which is an integral part of the experience. I’m talking about the social elements. The people around you have a huge bearing on your life so the communal side of things has a big bearing on the experience you have. I had an incredible experience and much of the credit goes to the people I was working and living with. Upon arrival we checked into t...

Latin American misadventures.: A conclusion of sorts

http://haywardinsa.blogspot.com/2012/05/conclusion-of-sorts.html

A little record of my time in the continent of South America. Sunday, May 27, 2012. A conclusion of sorts. I don't think I can effectively write something that will be meaningful or interesting to the reader. After all, I started this blog primarily as a way to let my parents know about what I had been up to, and that I was still alive. It isn't a place to get deep, and I'm not the person to go there. So all I can say is this - if you aren't a traveler yet, go and become one. You will enjoy it. Consideri...

Latin American misadventures.: August 2011

http://haywardinsa.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

A little record of my time in the continent of South America. Thursday, August 18, 2011. And the upcoming mountain we were going to be climbing. The minibus ride was pretty unpleasant, but the views tended to make up for it. Coroico is in the Yungas. However all was well and we piled into our vehicle for the day, the noble Toyota Noah. This thing was pretty marginal on the narrow gravel roads with sharp switchbacks but we got to the canyon no trouble. There was a good walk down to the first waterfall...

Latin American misadventures.: July 2011

http://haywardinsa.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

A little record of my time in the continent of South America. Monday, July 25, 2011. Getting into Bolivia is a real eye opener. The poverty is immediately apparent and completely unavoidable. It is everywhere on the streets. While the people aren’t about to drop dead from starvation they don’t have much room for luxuries in life. The contrast between here and Argentina is incredible, even in the few hundred metres between townships that mark the border. We went to another tour company which was much more...

Latin American misadventures.: March 2011

http://haywardinsa.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

A little record of my time in the continent of South America. Tuesday, March 22, 2011. The situation is both extremely exciting and overpoweringly scary. For three months I will work long hard physical days on a remote hillside in Southern Chile with seven others from NZ and a group of the locals. I am looking forward to what promises to be a simple and satisfying lifestyle with plenty of time to think, a lot of good healthy exercise, a smattering of bike riding and a bunch of new mates.

A little record of my time in the continent of South America. Wednesday, December 28, 2011. Machu Picchu in pictures. Wednesday, December 21, 2011. The Inca jungle trip, part two. Oh yeah, monkey house had turkeys. Aren't they ridiculous? What is Cuy, I hear you (maybe) say? Cheers Towny for the awesome photo and for letting me play grab-ass with you in the far left part of the shot. A good spot to really ponder life's big issues. Dodgy as river crossing mechanism.
