Next time, I think we should take the grandkids and go to Maui, while mom and dad stay on the farm and care for the critters! Wednesday, August 20, 2008. Day Ten - Wednesday, Our last day. These pictures were taken yesterday. We are trying to get a shot similar to the one we took on day one. Nona wasn't into it. Then, due to those calls, I had to go to my computer to send a few emails, etc. So this didn't turn ...

Next time, I think we should take the grandkids and go to Maui, while mom and dad stay on the farm and care for the critters! Wednesday, August 20, 2008. Day Nine - Tuesday. With our time together winding down, we mostly concentrated on doing some things that the kids hadn't gotten a chance to do. They wanted to ride a real horse! We got little Jake out. They all went out to say good bye to the other horses.

Spencer's New Life: February 2009

http://spencersnewlife.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html

Sunday, February 15, 2009. What's Spencer been up to lately? I'm frequently asked that question in emails and it makes my heart swell that so many people care about him. Well, with the weather being yucky and the days short, and me busy as heck, poor Spencer has been kind of bored. My niece says he reminds her of a woolly mammoth right now, with his fuzzy winter coat on. Last week, I was able to get a gigantic front foot up on my stand long enough to clean it and take 2 nips. WOW! It was our first time!

Spencer's New Life: March 2009

http://spencersnewlife.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html

Wednesday, March 25, 2009. HOW DO YOU EAT A DRAFT HORSE? Spencer gets worried about the people around him and at times he is jumpy, angry and intimidating. I continue to wonder why a horse would behave this way. Sometimes you just have to try to get inside the head of an animal like him to try to figure him out and help him to become a safe, member of equine society. After he gave up and allowed himeself to be haltered, he was hauled to a new location where he was put in with, and brutalized by, another ...

Spencer's New Life: September 2009

http://spencersnewlife.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

Wednesday, September 30, 2009. Here is Spencer doing what he does best. Eating! Spencer's front feet have been trimmed a few times now and he's really maintaining all four of his feet pretty well. He ruptured a huge abscess out of one front foot a few months ago and that has finally grown out enough to snap the dead wall off. You'd have to know how abscesses progress to know what I mean by that, but suffice to say, he's growing out new hooves. I personally don't like draft horses to look like plow horses...

Spencer's New Life: January 2009

http://spencersnewlife.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html

Monday, January 19, 2009. One foggy morning, I went outside to feed the horses. I looked out at the herd and I didn't see Spencer. I saw a horse that looked like Spencer, but he seemed smaller than the other horses. I looked and looked. Were my eye deceiving me? Did I need new glasses? How could this be? As I got closer, I could see that Spencer was about the size of a Shetland pony. Very cute and easy to manage. I thought of all the benefits of this new size. Less hay! But I missed the Big Spencer!

I just discovered this blog, it was a good read. :) Spencer is certianly very lucky to have you in his life! September 28, 2009 at 11:27 AM. I sure hope we can keep progressing with him. Spencer's New Life: Spencer's Coming and Goings

http://spencersnewlife.blogspot.com/2009/05/spencers-coming-and-goings.html

Wednesday, May 27, 2009. Spencer's Coming and Goings. Spencer roaming around the field on an early spring day. I was just sitting here at my computer looking for pictures to upload for Spencer’s blog. I came across some pictures that I took when he first came here, this time last year. I noticed that his body has changed a lot. He lost some weight over the winter, probably a bit too much. But feeding a draft horse has given me a better understanding of what it must be like to feed an elephant. I know tha...

Spencer's New Life: November 2008

http://spencersnewlife.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html

Saturday, November 1, 2008. The Spencinator On Video. I wish I would have had my camera! But I was screaming at them to STOP! I didn't mean to be a smartass in this video, but I guess I kind of am. I'm such a dork in this, but I still had to show you. I just can't help wondering why he was so challenging in the past. You can hear my hubby and our neighbor, Jim, working on the fences. They've been doing an awesome job. Do you remember how I couldn't get near him while he ate his food? Links to this post.

Spencer's New Life: Been awhile.

http://spencersnewlife.blogspot.com/2010/02/been-awhile.html

Monday, February 22, 2010. Just wanted to add a quick update since it's been awhile. Spencer is doing really well. Getting more and more respectful and gaining the weight. When I look back on picture of him last winter, he did get thin. He was getting all the hay he could eat, but he was moving around a lot more than probably he had in years being in with the other horses. He is the BIG MAN ON CAMPUS. No one argues with Spencer except the newest little pony, Millie. She has a big fat crush on him. Spence...

Tuesday, November 9, 2010. Why, why, why (and a little how). Little Mr. A is a curious fellow. Whenever we read or watch anything, and I do mean anything, he wants to know why or what or how. But usually it’s why. When we have scriptures and it is their turn to “read,” the boys repeat the words of their verse after someone reads the verse a few words at a time. Then the adult stops to explain what happened in the verse or what something means. Me: Yea, even my father . . . A: spake much now what happened?
