Things I notice after spending more than a year outside of the US:. 1) Wait staff is really friendly and the service is amazingly good. 2) This is because they are working for tips, and tipping sucks! 3) That's ok, because everything is really, really cheap, especially food. Beer, chips, sandwiches, everything is less than half as much as it is in Australia. 5) Pennies are really stupid. 8) Sports and news programs have no idea that a world outside the US exists.

Tuesday, January 14, 2014. Snow Fun in Missouri. We were fortunate to have a white Christmas again. This year. Living in Alabama, I was worried that our one trip north this winter would not coincide with a winter storm, but we lucked out. It started snowing when we arrived, and stayed cold enough for the snow to not melt until the day before we left. Perfect. Three times we got bundled up and went out to play. We got in some snow shoveling. Tractor riding to help clear off the driveway.

Tuesday, May 5, 2015. Bryan has arrived in Afghanistan. Barchan sand dunes and the view out of his window on approach to Al Udeid, Qatar. Bryan then spent 3 days at the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar while waiting for a flight to Afghanistan. This gave him time to adjust to the time (7 hours ahead at that point), drink a few last beers (no alcohol in Afghanistan), and catch us up on his journey.
