Adventures of the Hopeful :): May 2013

Adventures of the Hopeful :). The other day, I came across this delightful posting about the meaning of love. Here 'tis. A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, ’What does love mean? 8217; The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined:. 8216;When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.’ – Billy, age 4. And listen.’ –Bobby, age 7. 8216;If you want to learn to lo...

Adventures of the Hopeful :): Keeping the Darkness at Bay
https://lookingupinsong.blogspot.com/2015/05/keep-darkness-at-bay.html
Adventures of the Hopeful :). Keeping the Darkness at Bay. I love what we can learn from marvelous adventures like those of Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee in J.R.R. Tolkein's The Lord of the Rings. One thing I learn over and over again is that extraordinary acts of tremendous courage come from those ordinary individuals who choose to take a stand. It's like Gandalf explains in The Hobbit. And truly it is these small acts that keep the darkness- of hardship, of loneliness, of sadness- at bay. Let's begi...

Adventures of the Hopeful :). Feels Like A Dream. Eighteen months later, and it almost feels like yesterday. It's been four days since I arrived home last Thursday from serving the Lord in the Philippines Laoag Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. And try to keep you updated on the most recent goings-on. However, should you ever have questions feel free to ask, and I will gladly respond. :). 3) I got to meet/re-meet three of my four new nephews this week! I get a crack out of it e...

Adventures of the Hopeful :). These are things I think would be delightful to do in my life. :). This list will change indefinitely. When I've completed them, they will be crossed out.]. Go to a Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas Concert. Go to the UK. Make a landscape scene on canvas (like in one of Jenny Nimmo's books. I can't recall which.). The Complete Grimm's Fairytales. Learn to play the cello/viola/violin/guitar. Ride on a train. Go skiing/snowboarding at least once. Collect sand dollars (again).

Adventures of the Hopeful :). A Celebration of Life. I have the sweetest family in the world, and I've been blessed to know some of them for as long as I have. On February 19th, my dear grandfather, Papa, passed away. This was the obituary published. Jul 4, 1930 - Feb 19, 2013. Resident of Walnut Creek. I've been so blessed that he was a part of my life, and that he was able to come visit with Auntie Ann and Auntie Amy. Families are such a crucial part of the Lord's plan, and I'm so. Brought to you by.

Adventures of the Hopeful :): The Music of the Gospel
https://lookingupinsong.blogspot.com/2015/05/the-music-of-gospel.html
Adventures of the Hopeful :). The Music of the Gospel. Last month Wilford Andersen gave a talk in General Conference called "The Music of the Gospel. He talked about how we need to learn the music of the gospel- feel it (the Spirit, the love of God, the music. Of the gospel) in our hearts and then act accordingly. I love this quote from the talk:. With God’s help, the day will come when the music of the gospel will fill your home with unspeakable joy.". Even in the dissonant times in our lives when we ju...

Adventures of the Hopeful :). So today is Halloween. One of my favorite holidays of the year.the dressing up, the activities, the season. It's all so happy for me. Today, I got to help with something on campus called a "blender activity" where BYUSA does things to bring unity to the campus. Today's was handing out candy all over campus- basically reverse trick-or-treating. It was SO fun seeing everyone's faces light up when we said, "Halloween candy! Peter Pan, Wendy and Tiger Lily. The Men in Black.

Adventures of the Hopeful :). Light in the Seams. But just as I felt trapped in the box (basically- I mean I could've gotten out, but I'm a good, obliging sister:), I noticed the area inside the box was not complete darkness. There was a light coming in through the seams of the box. Light beyond the edges of the dark. There is a reason it's called "going through" bad times; these things do. For after all," as Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote, "the best thing one can do when it is raining is let it rain&#...

Adventures of the Hopeful :). Today after class, my roommate, Xauntal, was baking stuffs whilst I sat in the kitchen eating and being generally useless. Then all of a sudden my roommate looked distressed and said in exasperation, "They're not cool! Me, slightly confused: "What? I can't put them in the container if they're not cool! Me: *shrugs* "Put some sunglasses on them.". Brought to you by. For those of you who may not know, General Conference. Guess who's stinkin' excited. that's right: I AM! The pa...
