She had a Q. Look: Grown-up
http://not-kate.blogspot.com/2014/02/grown-up.html
Thursday, February 20, 2014. Today I found a giant slug on my kitchen floor. It was the biggest slug I have seen in my life. I thought it was a chunk of avodcado, so we quite taken aback after I picked it up and it wriggled. It seemed too big to just squash, and I didn't want it getting into my lettuces (this may be how it got in) so I put it under a glass to deal with when I got home from work. Only when I got home, it was gone. I feel a little afraid. So I now have my own home. It's good. Two of the ho...

Judge & Jury: December 2014
http://judge-jury.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Tuesday, December 30, 2014. The Case for Nightcrawling. Jake Gyllenhaal plays creepy disturbingly well. When he gets thin, his big eyes look hollow, his wide mouth looks sinister, his intense stare looks… well, intense. And all of these physical attributes, along side his robotic like delivery and focussed attention means he plays the amoral and psychotic Lou Bloom, a Nightcrawler. Fingers crossed it keeps its head above water. But enough of that. Sunday, December 21, 2014. To stretch out the movie reven...

Judge & Jury: February 2015
http://judge-jury.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, February 28, 2015. The Case for a Brief History. In my lead up to the Academy Awards, I had to see The Theory of Everything. The well regarded tale of the life and times of Stephen Hawking, as seen through the eyes (and the memoirs) of his ex-wife Jane. Verdict: The actors in The Theory of Everything. Raise the film above the average to the extraordinary. It didn’t blow my mind, but it definitely made me think and kept me entertained throughout – and what more can one ask? 8 theories out of 10.

She had a Q. Look: July 2012
http://not-kate.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, July 10, 2012. So I'm female-frisbee MVP three weeks running. I don't care that there aren't many girls on the team or that my students may have given it to me out of fear/loyalty this week. I'm expecting some kind of giant cup. At the end of the season. GIANT! Kyle has started calling me 'The Glacier'. I have stopped grooming my hair this week. No straightening. Going to bed with it wet, so I wake up and it's CRAZILY going in all different directions. I might look a bit hobo-ish. The censorship...

Judge & Jury: August 2014
http://judge-jury.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Wednesday, August 6, 2014. The Case for Herculean Efforts. The reason to go to a Dwayne Johnson film is because the man himself oozes charm and watchability out of very muscular pore. The second film about the Greek demi-god released this year, only really works because of his incredible charisma. But the story is fairly predictable (and occasionally a bit nonsensical; where did all the armour and weapons come from again? As with all these sorts of tales, there is a dark back story as well, with Hercules...

She had a Q. Look: August 2013

Wednesday, August 07, 2013. 85% there but not flexible. My podiatrist was possibly savvy enough to know I have not been doing my stretches. She seemed disapproving and almost dismissive of me. I disappointed her! Like some kid who hadn't done their homework, so the teachers just sighs and moves on. And my foot will probably continue to hurt for 12-18 months following the injury. That seems like an awfully long time. I feel less proud of myself now. If I was them, I'd eat them all myself. I wore a blazer ...

She had a Q. Look: June 2014
http://not-kate.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Monday, June 30, 2014. My parents were never as into TV as me and my brother. There is a famous story in my family about when my brother was about three. He was outside playing on his wee plastic motor-bike and mum called him inside. He kept saying, 'I can't! And refused to come inside. This worried my mother slightly. But turns out he was copying a scene from CHiPS and yelling out something akin to 'I'm stuck in the glue! I also liked Little Ted, because I was a Little Sister, I imagine. Monkey Magic...

She had a Q. Look: Weekend
http://not-kate.blogspot.com/2014/08/weekend.html
Sunday, August 24, 2014. I have had a pleasing random selection that has included some John Lennon and Pearl Jam and some old blues singer. And Donovan. My neighbour was not so lucky and had to paint a big chunk of their garage, plus another new one I spotted today. Stop with the turf wars, local youths! It's annoying. I have taken to keeping my bottle of terps right by the front door for convenience. They tape stuff off of TV (including some Sky channels - such as Rialto) and stream it online for member...

She had a Q. Look: June 2012
http://not-kate.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
Tuesday, June 26, 2012. So at 3am on Monday morning I was sitting up in an ED ward at Palmerston North Hospital, reading a book of Leonard Coen. Poetry I happened to have in my bag to try and keep awake. I'd arrived at my Dad's for a visit, and soon after my step-ma had emerged from her nap saying she couldn't breathe. She was walking and taking very short breaths, but they sounded really gurgly. Are important when you have vomited lung-mucus on your old ones. And a change of real clothes in case it ...
