If you knew you were to be stranded on a desert island and you could take 5 books (not including the Works of Shakespeare and the religious text of your choice), 1 CD and 1 luxury item, what would you take? This is the question we ask in our new column, based on Radio 4's. Each week a member of staff, a student or a person of interest will put forward their choices. Friday 29th of June. By JR R. Crime Central: Why I Love SPIRAL Anne Cassidy
http://crimereading.blogspot.com/2011/09/why-i-love-spiral-anne-cassidy.html
A blog about crime books - and more - for teens. Monday, 12 September 2011. Why I Love SPIRAL Anne Cassidy. SPIRAL is a French language TV cop drama. So far there have been three series. It was shown on BBC4 and gathered a cult audience. I love SPIRAL. Here are my reasons why:. 1 The characters are believable. They have different aspects to their personalities. They can do good things for bad reasons and vice versa. I particularly like Laure, the female detective who has an explosive temper. 2) Extremely...
Crime Central: Why I Love Kate Atkinson's Crime Anne Cassidy
http://crimereading.blogspot.com/2011/09/why-i-love-kate-atkinsons-crime-anne.html
A blog about crime books - and more - for teens. Thursday, 22 September 2011. Why I Love Kate Atkinson's Crime Anne Cassidy. After reading BEHIND THE SCENES AT THE MUSEUM many years ago I was surprised to hear that Kate Atkinson had written a crime novel CASE HISTORIES. I’d thought of Atkinson as a literary writer and although I love Crime Fiction I didn’t think of it as literary. When I heard there was a second book A JOLLY MURDER MYSTERY I thought no, bad idea, to follow up a brilliant book. It can...
Crime Central: January 2011
http://crimereading.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
A blog about crime books - and more - for teens. Monday, 31 January 2011. An A-Z of Crime Fiction by Anne Cassidy. Every crime novel needs one. A is for Alibi. This is when the person accused of murder insists that they were with someone else at the time. That person is the alibi. Blood groups, blood stains, blood traces are crucial to solving murders. C is for Clue. Clues are the way to find a murderer. D is for Detective. E is for Exhumation. F is for Family. G is for Gun. H is for Home. K is for Knife.
Crime Central: The Joys of Adermatoglyphia Malcolm Rose
http://crimereading.blogspot.com/2011/09/joys-of-adermatoglyphia-malcolm-rose.html
A blog about crime books - and more - for teens. Monday, 19 September 2011. The Joys of Adermatoglyphia Malcolm Rose. Why do we have fingerprints? Science isn’t sure. Some say they improve grip, but more recent research suggests that the ridges reduce friction. Maybe they are there to improve the sensitivity of our fingertips. One thing’s for sure. They didn’t evolve to reveal our identity to forensic scientists. So, what’s this about adermatoglyphia? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). A blog to celebra...

Crime Central: August 2011
http://crimereading.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
A blog about crime books - and more - for teens. Saturday, 27 August 2011. There's more to this life than MURDER Malcolm Rose. Theft has been on my mind. If I wanted a character to steal something valuable, what would it be? A mobile phone, an iPlayer, a Kindle, an iPad, a laptop, a car, a yacht, jewellery, someone’s credit card, cash? There’s a lot of valuable stuff out there. Quite a choice. But what if I wanted my character to steal something really really valuable? Wednesday, 24 August 2011. The Kill...

Best-Selling Author, Tutor and Speaker. Monday, 17 March 2014. In praise of gentle girls. There's been so much talk recently about bossy women and gender specific books and I, as usual, have kept quiet, not joined in the debate. But now, I think I would like to take a stand for gentle girls. Do you know what bossy meant to me at school? Want to emulate them? No Did I ever stand up to them? Probably not. I like a quiet life. Does that make me less of a woman than them? How I hate that word! I never had an...

Do you know what an eejit is? Someone who is one sandwich short of a picnicwhose lift doesn’t gowell, you know what I mean. Eejit is a wonderful Scottish/Irish word that seemed to sum me up perfectly when I was growing up. I was always trying to change my image. Act sophisticated, grown up, sensibleand then a story would just plop into my mind and BANG! There I’d go, smack into another lamppost. It was my mum who gave me my love of reading. Favourite book when I was little? Little Women. Guess why?

July 29, 2013. My father-in-law likes to pan for gold. It doesn’t pay his bills, its simply a compelling hobby. He knows a thing or two about gold now: what an ounce is worth, the soils to search in, and, most importantly, that it exists everywhere. It simply needs someone patient, passio ….
