Cathy Carney Blog: Day 5: Painter, layers, channels, and rainbows

http://cathycarney.blogspot.com/2008/10/day-5-painter-layers-channels-and.html

Friday, October 10, 2008. Day 5: Painter, layers, channels, and rainbows. I began with a photo (on the right) that I took in Yosemite. In class last week, I had been intrigued by the light and brilliance that came through the work of Maxfield Parrish. When I learned that part of his technique was to use layers of colors, I decided to see what I could do to make the Yosemite photo more light and bright by layering colors, with the top layer partially transparent. Friday, October 31, 2008. Day 7: I-pod transformations. I scanned two pages of ipod drawings from my sketchbook (picture #1), then used watercolors on them. The result is shown in the second picture. To create the third picture, I then began to experiment with various digital effects on each of the ipods, as numbered below from left to right:. 1 For the rainbow box, I used a simple liquefy effect from Photoshop. 3 The pale rainbow ipod received a Painter cloning treatment, using a thick bristle brush.

Cathy Carney Blog: Day 4: Channels

http://cathycarney.blogspot.com/2008/10/four-photos-below-show-results-of-my.html

Friday, October 3, 2008. The four photos above show the results of my experiments this week with channels, selection tools, and a number of other Photoshop features. Photo #2 shows the same lake, with a variety of gradients, patterns, and fills applied over or instead of the original image. Photo #3 was created by starting with an empty canvas, copying the principal channels onto it, and then loading each in turn and experimenting with ways to improve on nature…. Cathy Carney Blog: September 2008

Friday, September 26, 2008. Third Day: Tools and Selection Experiments. Once I had the Sunset photo cleaned up, I turned to the Moonrise photo. I wanted to capture both the moon and the mountain silhouette. Initially, I again tried the color range tool, but ran into problems. Eventually, the magic wand tool (with suitable tolerance adjustments) worked fine. Then I inversed the selection, copied, and pasted it onto the Sunset picture to produce the final. Third Day: The Future of Creativity. But why child...

Technology and Fine Art: September 2008

http://technologyandfineart.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html

Tuesday, September 30, 2008. Class 4 - My head hurts. We covered some thick material in our 4th class - Channels and Layers. Though fundamentally different, the two can be used in similar ways which can cause some confusion. The goal was to outline their differences. There really is no fight between which is better, layers or channels. Actually, layers and channels are two very different parts of the image puzzle in Photoshop. Each are used for separate and specific purposes. TIP: Before you flatten and ...

Technology and Fine Art: First Class

http://technologyandfineart.blogspot.com/2008/09/first-class.html

Thursday, September 11, 2008. Class started a little late due to the building being on a late timer for opening and letting us in. UAS has promised me that my swipe card has been fixed and I should have full access this weekend. It took about 20 minutes for setup and the class was underway. I like the make-up of the class - some people with experience from last semester's class. Approach to creating art on the computer. Posted by John Fehringer. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
