May Tide is Upon Us. Asymp; 3 Comments. And so I have decked my altar with violets and Wild geranium, sprung from the greened and vibrant earth. The day is cloud-scattered storms, and the air is scented of luminous Green. Hail and Welcome to the Bright Half of the Year! Larr; Previous post. Next post →. Thoughts on “May Tide is Upon Us”. Ancestor Stories: A Bad Tempered Man | The Dreaming Wood
https://thedreamingwood.wordpress.com/2014/11/02/ancestor-stories-a-bad-tempered-man
Ancestor Stories: A Bad Tempered Man. Asymp; Leave a comment. It’s the time of year when our thoughts turn more frequently to ancestors and family stories and lore. Here is one of mine. This is just far enough South in Illinois that the land is starting to fold. (The flat corn blanketed acres that were formerly seas of grass are farther north). Far enough south that traces of Ozark English can be heard in the local dialect. My grandmother on my dad’s side said. Instead of Wash, and. When my dad (the youn...

Personal Woo – On the Craft of Weland Smith | The Dreaming Wood

Personal Woo – On the Craft of Weland Smith. Asymp; 3 Comments. It is a week before Christmas, and I’m almost *knock on wood* caught up with everything I absolutely, positively must have finished and out the door before the shop closes for the holidays on December 24. I’ve been thinking lately about my craft and art (the one I do for a living at least) and how it intersects with magic, *my* magic, and what that has to do with my Path in general. Here are some snippets of thought –. If my lifeless body we...

Creek bottom land in early spring | The Dreaming Wood
https://thedreamingwood.wordpress.com/2015/04/06/creek-bottom-land-in-early-spring
Creek bottom land in early spring. Asymp; Leave a comment. When I was growing up, the strip of land between the neighbor’s wooded ridges and Bishop Creek was plowed and planted with corn or soybeans. a losing endeavor since the creek floods with every extended period of heavy rain. Now its been let to grow up into lowland woods with patches of Box elder and standing water from which spring peepers call and snapping turtles sun themselves. The flowers of Box elder (. Stand in contrast to the green twigs.

Burial of Tools of Art | The Dreaming Wood

Burial of Tools of Art. Asymp; 1 Comment. A few months ago I broke one of my files at work. I wasn’t using it any different than I normally do, and under only a little pressure it snapped in my hand. Around Summer Solstice I took it to a a secluded stream in a local park. I spoke of the file’s importance to me, and stated that I was now consigning it to the land of the dead, to the Under-the-Ground. I tossed the two small piece of steel into the water. rowan-berry biscuits: August 2010
http://rowanberrybiscuits.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 26, 2010. I remember telling a friend that I was going to start doing rituals with the changing phases of the moon, as lately I've been feeling disconnected with natural cycles of things and felt a need to get back on track. When calling on the God and Goddess, I did think of them as Freyr and Freyja, and I think They approved. Or at least they didn't mind. After casting the circle and calling quarters and raising energy, I then asked the Gods to guide my hand and bless the materials I'm...

Spirit Bottle: Great Mullein | The Dreaming Wood

Spirit Bottle: Great Mullein. Asymp; 1 Comment. I finally finished my first Spirit Bottle! The soil that I gathered on my most recent walk in my local park. Was the last piece I needed to complete it. The bottle is capped with a Mullein stem and sealed with beeswax. I painted a double-sided banner on antique-looking paper (using Acrylic paints, and Faber-Castell Artist’s Pens for the inking). The banner incorporates imagery that resonates with the symbolism of the plant itself. Larr; Previous post. Root ...

Unexpected Shadow work, and the Quiet Appraisal of the Smith | The Dreaming Wood

Unexpected Shadow work, and the Quiet Appraisal of the Smith. Asymp; 2 Comments. Before I relay what transpires here. Let me start by saying that I tend to regard with some cynicism any ‘love and light’ story of people’s personal encounters with Deity. I realize that everyone’s path is different, but all that “and then The Goddess wrapped me in her loving arms” stuff just seems… like hopeful, starry eyed wish fulfillment? Which made what follows quite surprising. December 16th 2014 –. The stairs in the c...
