Tails from a Cat Vet

Tails from a Cat Vet. Wednesday, April 24, 2013. I didn't sleep well last night. The evening started off promising enough. Anna went to sleep with little fuss around. Amanda and I got in a few games of a card game called Dominion. I got to catch up on a little reading, and as I started to drift off, my cat Pinkie decided it was time to lay down the law by tormenting a dog that we are pet-sitting for a few days. Miranda was free climbing thru the wrapping paper in search of some treats that we hide up high.

Tails from a Cat Vet. Monday, January 29, 2007. A sudden change in attitude. Posted by CatVetDeux @ 7:52 PM. Thursday, January 25, 2007. Thanks to Amanda for this link. Gave me a much needed chuckle between appointments. Http:/ video.google.ca/videoplay? Posted by CatVetDeux @ 8:49 AM. Tuesday, January 23, 2007. If fried chicken is what it takes. Tails from a Cat Vet. Tuesday, July 24, 2007. Another concert to get excited about. Posted by CatVetDeux @ 3:13 PM. Tuesday, July 17, 2007. A lady brought in a cat she recently adopted just this past week. I chuckled when I saw the file read that the cat's name was "Lexis". As it turns out, the receptionist had not misspelled the name. The client commented that whoever had named her must have been "new money". Posted by CatVetDeux @ 1:44 PM. Thursday, July 12, 2007. Ode to the internet pharmacy. Call the...

Tails from a Cat Vet: March 2007

http://catvetclinicdr.blogspot.com/2007_03_01_archive.html

Tails from a Cat Vet. Thursday, March 22, 2007. I usually sit in this chair to read and watch the television - this was a time when I was not allowed to. Pinkie is the one on the right, Miranda on the left. Every night around 10:30 pm, they play pretty rough, and Pinkie will scream like the sky is falling. During those times, I try to remember images like this to know that they really do like each other. Posted by CatVetDeux @ 9:27 AM. Houston, Texas, United States. View my complete profile.

Tails from a Cat Vet: Allergies

http://catvetclinicdr.blogspot.com/2012/01/allergies.html

Tails from a Cat Vet. Friday, January 27, 2012. When I think of allergies, I think of horses. Unforunately, getting past that difficult conversation can seem easy relative to what may follow. Here are some highlights. Everyone wants problems to go away permanently - with allergy one hopes for control rather than cure. Sometimes it can take many months before an effective regimine will be found - be patient. The "blood allergy testing" that Dr. Google likes doesn't work well at all. We are all pretty sure...

What I Learned This Week. FRANK Communication training →. May 31, 2012 · 2:05 am. Treat the patient, not the numbers. Photo Credit: Lewis Cole. I remember in vet school, one of the clinical instructors said, “Treat the patient, not the numbers.” One of our patients was a miniature schnauzer with pure red cell aplasia–her bone marrow wasn’t making red blood cells. Her hematocrit hovered around 8%! Her final hematocrit was 5%.). For me, it’s probably once a month or so? Filed under General medicine. Then t...

Videos related to pain management. Treat the patient, not the numbers →. May 26, 2012 · 3:27 am. What I Learned This Week. Here’s a sampling of what I learned this week:. Chameleons can’t convert beta-carotene to vitamin A. There’s some kind of freeze-dried diet of cactus fruit for tortoises–cool! Necropsy on a 5-year old guinea pig revealed a large tumor inside her uterus–never seen something quite like that before. Over the past several weeks, I’ve had a crash-course in. Reflecting on the past year and choosing my three words for next year. January 1, 2014 · 5:58 am. Still kicking–sort of. Last year at this time, I chose three words to guide me in 2013: Listen. Organize. Energize. Here’s the truth: I think I failed on all three fronts. I couldn’t even remember what my three words were until I looked at them just moments ago. Part of me thinks perhaps I should not choose three words for next year, but what if that’s the beginning of the end? Or am I becoming complacent?

Still kicking–sort of →. January 1, 2013 · 3:24 am. Reflecting on the past year and choosing my three words for next year. Each year, instead of a New Year’s Resolution, I choose three words to help guide my decisions and how I live my life. Last year at this time, I was holding a brand new baby in my arms, and the words I chose to guide the oncoming year reflected my deep sense of commitment to her and my family: Nurture the future. I announced my plans to step down as president of a non-profit organiza...

Friday the 13th →. July 1, 2012 · 2:53 am. The best laid plans…. Excited to practice my new communication skills (see my recent post about the FRANK Communication Workshop. I attended), I picked up the phone to dial my 4:30 consultation about some rabbits. The client lived far away and had questions regarding her “herd” of about 100 rabbits (started as a 4-H project). The staff had warned me this would be a challenging conversation. I could have set the phone down, walked away for 5-10 minutes, come back...

Treat the patient, not the numbers. The best laid plans… →. June 28, 2012 · 4:10 am. A dream of mine came true today: I attended the first day of the Pfizer FRANK Communication workshop! It’s a 1.5 day workshop, and today was Day 1. Somehow, I missed the advance reading assignment, so I was worried I would feel behind. Fortunately, the Frank presentation Dr. Holzhauer had brought to our hospital had prepared me well, and I’m interested enough in this stuff that I had already read one book (. There were s...

The best laid plans…. Reflecting on the past year and choosing my three words for next year →. July 24, 2012 · 2:40 am. Some days, it feels like nothing goes as planned. Friday the 13th was one of those days. My schedule included two prophys, a dog and a cat. I also agreed to radiograph two raptors for Operation Wildlife. I thought I might actually have some time to catch up on some projects. Just when I thought I should go to lunch, we had an urgent care exam walk in: a 10 lb Pomeranian that had been pi...

Cats and Veterinary Medicine - A Social History

Cats and Veterinary Medicine – A Social History. Posted by Dr. N. Joosting. Veterinarians and society may be starting to talk more openly about euthanasia. A dark difficult subject at best, it is fraught with the intense emotions of guilt and grief. A 2015 veterinary presentation on the subject made the claim that euthanasia is not intended to kill it is intended to end suffering and that death is the unfortunate unintended consequence of this. Growing up with the constant admonition that Thou Shalt Not ...
