Francis - Arkley Poor Clares

http://arkleypoorclares.weebly.com/francis.html

The Prayer of the Church. This is the city of Assisi in Umbria, where our religious family was born, through the inspiration of Francis and Clare. They lived at a time when money, trade and possessions were becoming increasingly important. These things gave people prestige and the power to control and manipulate others. After two unsuccessful attempts at soldiering, a spell in prison and a long illness, he began to spend more time alone and in prayer. His former friends thought he had gone mad.

Clare - Arkley Poor Clares

http://arkleypoorclares.weebly.com/clare.html

The Prayer of the Church. Francis found a home for Clare and her sister, Agnes, at the little church he had rebuilt. It was called San Damiano and was a short distance outside the walls of Assisi. Soon other women came to join her, including another sister and their mother. This picture is a very ancient depiction of Clare with all these events from her life illustrated around her. The Prayer of the Church. But of all the many things we do, this is the most important. Ever since the time of Clare, her sisters have prayed the Prayer of the Church - the Divine Office - the Liturgy of the Hours - it has many names - by day and by night, praising and worshipping God. Celebrating the sacramentality of the day, the week, the year, liturgically. This illustration of Poor Clares in Choir singing the Office is from a medieval manuscript. Create a free website.
