Wednesday, December 16, 2009. Charleston night lights are breathtaking during the Christmas season. Decorative lights and trees radiate from grand rooms in historic homes, sidewalk trees are tastefully lit downtown, and the old tradition of a Christmas tree shining from the middle of Colonial Lake is always a favorite. Charelston has had street lamps since the 18th century and gas lamps were first placed on sidewalks in 1846, so beauty by day and night is long-standing. Tuesday, December 8, 2009.
