This is my reply sent to the 'Back the Pub' campaign in support of Cornwall's pubs:. As Labour's prospective MP in an area with some excellent local breweries, and pubs which are at the heart of some of our local communities, I am supporting CAMRA's 'beer drinkers and pub goers charter'. The former leader of Restormel Borough Council says he will be supporting Mebyon Kernow's leader Dick Cole in the forthcoming general election. Even so, it strikes me as odd to support the person you trust to champion your community if they lose, rather than if they are elected. I love Cornwall and people here&...

Hope is like a road in the country. There was never a road, but when many people walk on it, the road comes into existence.' Lin Yutang. Thursday, December 31, 2009. 2010 - the year for hope. The new year is about hope. Political forecasts which turn out to be right are always lucky guesses. Journalists and politicians spice plausibility with personal predilections and the 'predictions for 2010' article is written. This actually shows the strength of Labour's achievement and election potential as we ente...

Hope is like a road in the country. There was never a road, but when many people walk on it, the road comes into existence.' Lin Yutang. Saturday, May 01, 2010. Student voters in Falmouth and Truro. This year, it seems that campaigns encouraging students to register - led by the NUS and others - have had some success. As the Labour candidate, I listen to what students say. When people contact me asking my views I reply - I will do my best to get back to everyone before polling day. Student voters in Falm...

A strong voice for Cornwall. Charlotte MacKenzie, Labour's candidate for Truro and Falmouth at the next general election. A strong voice for Cornwall. November 10, 2009. The people of Cornwall need better representation. Our communities are disadvantaged – despite access to EU funding – by having no spokesperson of the UK governing Party since 2005. A strong voice for Cornwall. Charlotte MacKenzie, Labour's candidate for Truro and Falmouth at the next general election. Voting for Cornwall’s economy – Charlotte’s column (week 5). May 3, 2010. People I’m talking to here raise many issues. What unites most is that Cornwall needs a sustainable economy. Healthcare, jobs, housing, schools, and fair funding for elderly care all rely on sustaining Labour’s investment. Paying down UK debt must be supported by economic growth, rather than savage cuts. Promote...

A 'weary' eye on the lunatics in charge of the Cornish Asylum. So what’s the point of Mark Prisk? Cast Them As Cousins →. 8 May, 2010. No question about it, for once the Cornish Tories’ smugness might actually be warranted (worst offender on election night: George Eustice, who managed to make Sheryll Murray look gracious). They won half the seats in Cornwall and nearly overtook the Lib Dems in the popular vote (those second home votes. Labour’s election was a disaster. Their best hope was Cambo...That Tr...

April 18, 2010. Cornwall faces big challenges. The environment and economy go hand in hand. The issue is sustainability, not environment vs new development. Your MP can make a difference. A 'weary' eye on the lunatics in charge of the Cornish Asylum. The slippery art of saying nothing (but still taking the money). 8220;Battery Rocks Revisited” →. What are the Tories for? 7 March, 2010. I am continually baffled as to what the Conservatives claim they stand for in Cornwall. I used the word “claim” in that last sentence as I have a pretty good idea what they. Nobody asking what the hell you stand for then? And let’s not forget the perpetually serene Sheryll Murray, whose stock tweet is...

The buoyant incoming Cornish Pirates chairman Ian Connell has called for a new stadium in time for the 2016-17 season. In April Cornwall Council took up an option to keep land as public open space which forms part of the area at Langarth which has planning permission as a stadium. Councillors making the decision to do this were advised that if they exercised this option the land must be kept as public open space and would not be available for the stadium. July 10, 2014.
