Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Our (not so) daily bread : 2. July 24, 2014. The workshop takes place once a month throughout the year over the course of a weekend: a three-and-a-half hour session on Saturday evening followed by a shorter session on Sunday morning. And then it was time for breakfast. But despite our enthusiasm, there really was no hope of us polishing off all that we had made, so once again we left the bakery laden with treats to take home. Best of all we were...A to ...

Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. The name of the rose. September 30, 2014. Last week, whilst thinking about how to fit more roses into my garden, I dug out these photographs. Way back in June, on the summer solstice no less, we took the girls and Sybil for an early evening game of frisbee in the grounds of Ashton Court. Frisbee isn’t really my thing, so I wandered off to the rose garden instead. Consequently, tracking down the roses I fall in love with feels virtually impossible I̵...
rose petal jam: part 2 | Charlotte's Plot
https://charlottesplot.com/2012/06/25/rose-petal-jam-part-2
Skip to primary content. Rose petal jam: part 2. June 25, 2012. The first batch, although delicious on a crumpet, was far more successful stirred into a rhubarb fool and later some plain yoghurt. I’d happily use the method again if I wanted a rose-scented syrup for a pudding. 1) Rose petal jam / syrup. 30g petals (white part removed), 60g jam sugar, 500ml water. 2) Improved rose petal jam. 40g rose petals, 80g jam sugar, 80g water,. Inspired by a comment left by Thrifty Household. June 25, 2012 at 15:54.

The Compound Word Project: November 2012
http://compoundwordproject.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html
The Compound Word Project. Monday, November 19, 2012. Round one - the answers. So, the post you've been waiting for - it's Monday evening and here are the answers:. I think everybody got this one correct. Just a starter to ease you into the game. This one caused a few more problems. Incorrect, but plausible answers included polycotton (which I thought was very inspired). A few guesses of spotless for this one, which I totally see the logic behind. Almost all guessed correctly. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

The Compound Word Project: April 2013
http://compoundwordproject.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
The Compound Word Project. Tuesday, April 2, 2013. Round two - the answers. Time for the head scratching to end - here are the answers for round two. Lots of people told me they found this round trickier than the last. I think, perhaps the photographers were a touch more oblique than the last round and there were a couple of diptychs which were clearly harder to solve than others. I allowed beachcombing and beachcomber too). A fairly straightforward one, which almost everybody got right - wavy hair.

Long May She Rain : Evelyn Dunbar
http://long-may-she-rain.blogspot.com/2012/02/evelyn-dunbar.html
I thought I would dedicate this weeks entry to a very talented lady, Evelyn Dunbar who was born in 1906 - a true artist and all-round heroine. I believe she is one of the most important artists of WW2, and who still holds a unique position in twentieth century British art. She was described by Sir William Rothenstein, principal of the Royal College of Art, as having ‘ real genius. 8217; and was the only salaried woman war artist in the Second World War. Evelyn photographed April 1941 in the Lake District.

Long May She Rain : Christmas in Wartime

Animals in Wartime 1914-1918, Imperial War Museum. In what will be my last post before Christmas, I thought i'd share some findings of Christmas in Wartime that I have collected recently, the Imperial War Museum's. New website have begun to put their image collection online, I could have spent hours searching through! Captain C I Stockwell, who was present at the original Truce, wrote an account of the events on "one of the most curious Christmas Days". He had ever experienced. Where infantry units in cl...

Home in a Lower East Side Homestead. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. The Start of the Homestead. May 5, 2015. Its ramp time. A fleeting moment in the spring when ramps are in season. They are one of the first green things of the growing season along with nettles and asparagus. They are wild and you see them on the forest floor, bursting through the remnants of the brown lacy leaves left over from last autumn. There is a concern that ramps are being over harvested. Over a period of time, I experiemented with this non-garden side of the yard, but to be ready for Nature Manitoba 2017 yard tour, I decided, for good flow, Id simply pave that area, and gate it off. This meant the yard could be circumnavigated, and if I was in front, the dogs were with me there, and likewise, when in back. What can we do to garden, successfully, in the new, crazy weather? If that isn’t what gardening is about, we’re not talking about the same thing. Click here to add text. Think about wh...
Charlotte's Plate | whatever nourishes the body, mind and spirit-dig in
Whatever nourishes the body, mind and spirit-dig in. Asymp; Leave a comment. Silly title, I know, but truly I would never have thought to buy fresh tomatillos when canned were ready and available in every market in LA. Not so in South Africa, so faced with a beautiful pile of fresh tomatillos, I decided to see what these gems could do other than my standard green salsa recipe. Tonight I turned the refrigerated half into a robust, gutsy gazpacho that is just the thing for a hot summer night. 15-2 teas of ...
