Art, Life, TV, Etc.: The box of lost names
http://cherylbernstein.blogspot.com/2012/07/box-of-lost-names.html
Art, Life, TV, Etc. The low-brow and the high-minded. Wednesday, July 4, 2012. The box of lost names. Central London, 1961. Photographer: Charles W. Cushman. Charles W. Cushman Photograph Collection. My parents are from London. When you look at photographs of your parents' youth, you're not looking at people you know but at people whom you never knew; you respond less to their familiarity than to their strangeness. Recently I've re-read Roland Barthes's. The book which inspired Sebald's. Which comes on h...
Art, Life, TV, Etc.: The cost of words
http://cherylbernstein.blogspot.com/2012/12/the-cost-of-words_14.html
Art, Life, TV, Etc. The low-brow and the high-minded. Friday, December 14, 2012. The cost of words. So far I owe $2.50. It would be worth it, to say Fuckius Maximus. This, of course, is the small guys own idea and handiwork. Hes saving for an overseas holiday. Effectively, it is a plan for a wealth transfer from me to him. Love the way he crossed out the c word! And its a fiver! Am also honored that Fuckius Maximus is the most wickedest word you can say. In my opinion, Maximus is clearly quite good!

Head of the Harbour: A grand old Lady...
http://headoftheharbour.blogspot.com/2012/10/a-grand-old-lady.html
Head of the Harbour. A place to ponder. Monday, October 8, 2012. A grand old Lady. Tug Lyttelton dockside and firing up. Here is a little bit about the tug from her website http:/ www.tuglyttelton.co.nz/. The tug Lyttelton and her engines were built in Scotland in 1907 by. I can say, wholeheartedly, that she is, indeed, a great lady. The interior detailing of the Lyttelton is just stunning, all lovely wood and gleaming brass. Others were out enjoying the excellent sailing weather. But good on them :-).

Head of the Harbour. A place to ponder. Monday, May 13, 2013. At Cass, heading for the hills. Train about to enter Otira tunnel. Now for a rubber fix. May 14, 2013 at 6:01 PM. What a fantastic shot of the black centre line creeping across the single point perspective bridge! Glorious day and no one in sight . Thankyou for sharing :). May 15, 2013 at 5:09 AM. The shadows were a real feature. I forgot to add we saw a trout and lots of salmon - a guy pointed then out just above the Mt White Bridge. I live i...

Illusion Sciences: why are we surprised by only some of the things that we see? Arthur Shapiro blogging on research-generated phenomena. A new illusion whenever I can get around to it. Thursday, September 4, 2008. Four Bars: wiggle wiggle. The four center bars are always vertical and straight, and they do not physically change, but the bars appear to wiggle as the surround rotates. Deconstructions: Protecting the standards
http://deconstructions.blogspot.com/2013/07/protecting-standards.html
Saturday, July 13, 2013. This post first appeared as a column in the Good Living section of The Press, Christchurch. One of the tasks of retirement that presents itself with a creeping insinuation is protecting the standards of society. Being an elder statesperson somehow conveys that right, or it seems to because one has more time to think about them. It’s not exactly a matter of ‘Things weren’t like this in my time’ or ‘Back in the day…’ whenever the day was. Or something like that anyway. Again, there...
Deconstructions: Over the Hill
http://deconstructions.blogspot.com/2013/07/over-hill.html
Saturday, July 13, 2013. Over the hill - the beginning. This post and all others in the Over the Hill series first appeared as a Column in the Good Living section of The Press, Christchurch. Retirement is an event that looms for months if not years before it begins. There is to be an occasion of some sort; a dinner, a party, some type of farewell function. It is a moment or two during which a presentation is made of something that one would probably never otherwise own. Retirement is a process that simpl...

The Artist’s Studio. Week 8: The Modern Studio. Reconstructing Francis Bacon’s Studio. Photography played a major role in Bacons work, and almost one quarter of the material found in the studio is of a photographic nature. Many of these photographs are of Bacon, his friends and various other subjects. During his lifetime, Bacon accepted only a handful of commissions. From the early 1960s he chose his closest friends as sitters, preferring to work not from life but from their photographs. A painting like ...

Art, Life, TV, Etc. The low-brow and the high-minded. Monday, July 29, 2013. On climate change: the awful truth. Links to this post. Friday, April 5, 2013. In 1936, artist Rita Angus travelled from Christchurch to Cass with two fellow artists, Louise Henderson and Julia Scarvell, for ten days' painting and sketching in the mountains. Presumably they took the train, disembarking at the tiny rural station which Angus was to turn into a national icon with her painting Cass. Rita Angus, Cass. Between them, A...

A Little Memories
Friday, November 22, 2013. Erawan @ Kota Damansara. So I was craving for Thai food recently and then I thought of this Thai restaurant that I went few years back. I remember I had a good time over there whether is the food or with the gang that I hanging with. I remembered the food was awesome. So I invited my All Time Food Hunt Date. To visit this restaurant with me. And finally the day has come! Erawan @ Kota Damansara. The exterior of the restaurant itself was so attractive and full of Thai style.
