The Trapdoor in the Sun. Truth and Artifice - Straw thoughts of a straw man. Wednesday, June 11, 2014. Anti-Vax Myth #234934: Pre-Vaccine Medical Advances Account for Disease Elimination. The decrease in the mortality rate that preceded the introduction of vaccines indicates that the elimination of infection are the result of non-vaccine-related bio-medical advances and that, therefore, vaccines are ineffective. The following response uses measles as a representative vaccine-preventable disease. Rate dec...

The Trapdoor in the Sun. Truth and Artifice - Straw thoughts of a straw man. Saturday, May 10, 2014. Justin Trudeau's "Pro-Choice" Decree. Trudeau’s recent pronouncement that new candidates for the Liberal Party of Canada (LPC) must be "pro-choice" has stirred up some controversy. Criticism stemming from the National Post’s Andrew Coyne ( Trudeau ban on pro-lifers implies the issue is settled. It isn’t. So what has Trudeau really done? Edit: It has been pointed out to me that the issue of access to abort...

The Trapdoor in the Sun. Truth and Artifice - Straw thoughts of a straw man. Friday, June 13, 2014. A Crisis of Leadership: Reflections on the recent Ontario election. Disclaimer: I know that hindsight is 20/20. What I'm writing here is actually (believe it or not) what I was saying privately during the election and still hold to now. More than that, I also realize that politics, especially the specific variety practiced in North America, is a very strange beast. I know that it doesn't run on logic n...

It's pens and pencils and whatever else i want to mess about with. Friday, December 29, 2006. Years ago, i had a number of journals and sketchbooks that i would write in and have on hand religiously. i recently bought another in the hopes of jumpstarting that method once again. unfortunately, i only did the one entry (see above). maybe with my resurgence of interest in faces- and my relatively open schedule- i can actually get something in there. Been quite some time since i posted anything here. we've been busy as hell since the last posting, that's for sure. i did this sketch while waiting at the nanaimo ferry terminal on our way back from tofino this summer; i like it a lot. We started loading onto the ferry as i was finishing up. you can see that the lamppost and park area on the left aren't quite finished.

http://shayneandjo.blogspot.com/2006_12_01_archive.html
Shayne and Jo Take Over the World (Asia). Saturday, December 30, 2006. A Taste of the Sea. Anyways, apart from giving our condolenses on a lost vacation, we took the opportunity to explore a side of Korean cuisine that we've hitherto ignored: seafood, and more specifically, raw fish. So Nah Ri drew us a map to the fish market and we promised to stop by around lunch time the next day. The picture above shows the outside of the fish market, built on a pier. From this view it seems pretty peaceful. After bu...
