Thursday, February 21, 2008. Halbai is a cross between halwa and burfi. It is spread on a greased plate and cut into pieces like burfi but the consistency is soft, almost like halwa. This is my Grand mother's recipe for Halbai. Halbai is not a colorful dish (it comes out plain gray), It tastes wonderful! It has it's own unique flavour that I really love. Traditionally, halbai is made with soaked and ground wheat grains. This is a modern take on the traditional recipe. Chennagide. Try madi nodtini :).

Dal Makhni( Goes with Rotis n also rice). 1 cup whole urad daal (black urad). 1tbsp Red kidney beans (Rajma). 1 onion finely chopped. 1 tomato finely chopped. 2-3 green chilies finely chopped. 4-5 flakes Garlic paste. 1/2 cup fresh stirred cream (malai) or milk. 1tsp cumin seeds (jeera). Red chili powder to taste. Salt to taste . 1) Soak rajma and urad dal in water overnight. 2) Add water and little salt and pressure-cook Rajma and urad daal till soft for about 20-25 minutes.
