The First Day of Fall | Chin Up, Charlie!
https://chinupcharlie.wordpress.com/2011/09/23/the-first-day-of-fall
Chin Up, Charlie! All good, no grief. The First Day of Fall. September 23, 2011. I can't wait. An unusual day for it–seasons usually begin on the 21st, don’t they? But in the meantime, there are so many things to enjoy about fall, so many ways to warm up in cold weather:. I love sweater season. What about a trip to the pumpkin patch. Brighten my day, no matter how overcast. Fall’s a great time for crafts, both for grown-ups and kids. Make a lamp out of a gourd. Or a scarecrow from a toilet paper roll.

A Perfect Omnivore: On the Rise
http://aperfectomnivore.blogspot.com/2012/01/on-rise.html
Sunday, January 1, 2012. I've heard it said that whatever you're doing on New Year's Day, you'll be doing all year long. Which means that in 2012, I'll be quite productive (fingers crossed). Even after sleeping in and staying in my pajamas until almost noon, I've also deconstructed and packed away Christmas, made a lovely brunch (I'll tell you about the quiche a little later), and baked an absolutely incredible batch of French bread. Mastering the Art of French Cooking Vol. 2. A CUP OF JO. I've been a lo...

Thursday, March 31, 2011. Day Ninety-One: Playing Catch-up. Since I missed a day a couple of days ago, I thought I would pull double duty today. It's triple duty, really, since the crab cakes I had for dinner also contained itty bitty shrimps. So that's two kinds of seafood. Plus, I had key lime cheesecake for dessert. The crab and shrimp flavors were only mildly off-putting. This, my friends, is what you call progress. Labels: Perfect Omnivore Project. Wednesday, March 30, 2011. The streak of lackluster...

Thursday, October 20, 2011. And Selling New York. I know, generally, how much fancy New York real estate costs. And even with generous tips, I doubt any server could afford it. So the next day, we shared a street vendor pretzel and hot dog for lunch. Pub food for dinner. No guilt involved. Sunday, October 2, 2011. 2 tbsp olive oil. 1 lb parsnips, peeled, trimmed, and chopped. 1 large carrot, peeled and chopped. 1 small onion, diced. 1 stalk celery, chopped. Two medium potatoes, peeled and chopped. Our te...
A Perfect Omnivore: December 2011
http://aperfectomnivore.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
Friday, December 30, 2011. New Resolutions, New Recipes. One year ago, I was formulating a project in which I would broaden my palate and challenge myself to cook and eat new foods. I had recently read Jeffrey Steingarten's The Man Who Ate Everything. And thought his quest to become a less picky eater was not only admirable, but something I'd had a long time coming. I borrowed a phrase from him for a title and created a blog. Thus, "A Perfect Omnivore" was born. Excuses, excuses, right? A CUP OF JO.

A Perfect Omnivore: February 2012
http://aperfectomnivore.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Tuesday, February 14, 2012. The Food of Love. And, of course, I'm making dinner. But what about the main course? I'm making Aussie Chicken. What is Aussie Chicken, you might ask? It's chicken breasts, slathered in honey mustard, bacon, mushrooms, and cheese. It's a riff on something from Outback Steakhouse, I believe, and we haven't had it in years. Not since before I really learned to cook. It's delightfully simple and exploding with flavor (code: salt, sugar, and fat). Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Our t...
