Chris & Shirley's Round Oz Trip

Chris and Shirleys Round Oz Trip. Monday, 29 August 2011. Part 10 — Finale and Wrap Up. We are now home in Eltham. I could not finish the Kelly monologues without a couple of photos of views from our camp site in Ceduna, one with the setting sun hidden behind the tree. It was a very pleasant spot to spend a couple of days. Adelaide was its normal busy self—20 cars, one truck and two dogs. Chris & Shirley's Round Oz Trip: Part 9 - Wildflowers and the Nullarbor

http://www.chrisnshirl.blogspot.com/2011/08/part-9-wildflowers-and-nullarbor.html

Chris and Shirleys Round Oz Trip. Sunday, 21 August 2011. Part 9 - Wildflowers and the Nullarbor. The start of our trip home …………. On Wednesday 17th August we drove about 495 km from Kalbarri to a place called Dalwallinu. The land was a bit of an enigma as 95% of it looked barren and not capable of growing anything apart from the scrubby bushes that followed most of the road. Where else in Australia can you drive for 500 km and constantly see grain crops? I never seen so may grain storage facilities.

Chris & Shirley's Round Oz Trip: July 2011

http://www.chrisnshirl.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

Chris and Shirleys Round Oz Trip. Friday, 29 July 2011. Part 7 - Western Australia - The Pilbara. The departure from Broome occurred with some confusion and disarray, as the Kelly family was spread all over the globe. Jodi was holidaying in Darwin, Sara was working in Houston (Texas) and Shirley was in Melbourne visiting her sick father,. For Trudi and Amanda life was roughly normal (apart from Grandpa duties). And I was chief cook, bottle washer, navigator, driver, and gopher. Sort of fairly remote.

John and Fays Kimberley Trip. Tuesday, 16 August 2011. Kalbarri is another small resort town along the coast situated at the mouth of the Murchison River and all within the Kalbarri National Park. Mouth of the Murchison River. The drive in was very pretty as the wildflowers are abundant everywhere. In some places it looked as though it had been snowing there were so many flowers around. John and Fays Kimberley Trip: The Pinnacles

http://faynjohn.blogspot.com/2011/08/pinnacles.html

John and Fays Kimberley Trip. Monday, 22 August 2011. After leaving Geraldton we passed this leaning tree. It is a River Gum and it has grown like this because of the prevailing southerly winds which burn off the growth on the windward side of the tree. Jurien Bay just before sunset. Today (Sunday) we visited the Pinnacles. There are thousands of limestone pillars of varying sizes and it is quite a remarkable sight. It was blowing a gale today so it was like walking in a sand storm as you can see!

http://faynjohn.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

John and Fays Kimberley Trip. Tuesday, 28 June 2011. Barkly Homestead to Katherine. Left Mt Isa around 8.45 for the long days drive west, around 460 kms, to Barkly Homestead. Crossed into Northern Territory around 200 kms into the journey and played leap frog with the Kelly's all the way to the homestead arriving around 3.00pm. Shortly after leaving Mt Isa the countryside changed once again back to the flat Savannah plains before changing back to shrubby bush. The gang at Daly Waters Pub. Another short d...

John and Fays Kimberley Trip: Geraldton

http://faynjohn.blogspot.com/2011/08/geraldton.html

John and Fays Kimberley Trip. Sunday, 21 August 2011. On our way to Geraldton we called into a little fishing village called Port Gregory which is situated between the ocean and a lake. This lake is quite unique in that it is pink! Apparently the colour is caused by a bacteria in the salt granules; this provides a source of Beta Carotene which is harvested from small ponds. Lots of cars and traffic lights ugh. It is quite a nice town with a newly renovated foreshore and a very busy port. As we drove to M...

http://faynjohn.blogspot.com/2011/08/heading-for-home.html

John and Fays Kimberley Trip. Monday, 29 August 2011. After leaving New Norcia we cut across inland, again through rolling hills of canola and wheat as far as the eye could see, to a little (we thought) town of Merriden. It calls itself the centre of the wheatbelt area and was quite an interesting town. We did a tour of the town and it's surrounds and found out some interesting facts. By the time they had finished seeding the paddocks they would only be around 20cms out. Unbelievable. Our next stop was t...
