Watercolor on paper, 9" X 12". I had a little time last night and today to fit in a few watercolor studies. The subjects were pulled from vintage photos found online. A number of years back I painted almost exclusively in acrylic paint. I developed a working method to reproduce the look of egg tempera. I have recently started to paint again in acrylic. Saturday Studies - Nautilus - SOLD. Oil on canvas panel, 8" X 6", 2012. This weeks Saturday Studies is a limited palette painting. I only used 5 colors to make this work, ultramarine blue, raw umber, yellow ochre, raw sienna and white. It was done on a canvas panel that had been tinted subtle gray/umber tone. Working from my imagination. Oil on paper, 3 1/2" X 5 1/2", 2012. My process in painting these pieces isn't that different from what I have done in the past. I still create a detailed drawing of the subject, only this time it is from my imagination. Then that drawing is transfered to the painting surface and carefully rendered in oil. (process images to come) The work is taking on a feel of 'magic realism' and illustration. Fun to see where this work might eventually take me. Why do I do it?
