Nathan's Study: June 2009
http://nathanstudy.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
Friday, June 19, 2009. July 4th, A time to recommit to the principles of freedom. This year we celebrate 233 years of freedom. We also celebrate 222 years of union. Late in 1787, in a flash of inspired genius, 55 men put aside their petty differences and forged the great balancing act we know as the United States Constitution. Get out your barbecue, head to the fireworks, but don't let July 4th pass without having pondered our founding documents. Have you read the Declaration or the Constitution lately?

Musings on life, faith, politics, music, books, and whatever happens to cross my mind. Friday, March 04, 2011. If I could save time in a bottle. Recently, though, I've had some cause to consider my relationship with the clock. I'm leaving tomorrow on a trip to the Cherokee reservation in North Carolina, and one of the things I learned from talking to people who have gone on the trip before is that the Cherokee view time in a much more lenient way. Things happen when they happen, so why worry? I suspect I...

This is a bipartisan movie which was created largely in response to the Bush years. Great return on investment. So President Bush, to me, is at fault for wasting the Reagan dividend. Hayek was inspired by Tocqueville. He uses this quote early in the book:. Democracy and socialism have nothing in common but one word: equality. Nathan's Study: Why Gay Marriage Is Not an Inalienable Right

Wednesday, August 4, 2010. Why Gay Marriage Is Not an Inalienable Right. I'm amazed that people can get away with the rights-based argument for gay marriage. It is an astounding misunderstanding of individual rights. Gays have the inalienable right to do what they want with other like minded adults. But marriage is an institution that implies the blessing of others. You cannot demand that other people give you their blessing. It is their. Individual right to give it or withhold it.
