Tiny Happy (Urban) Farm: September 2012
http://tinyhappyfarm.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
Tiny Happy (Urban) Farm. Tuesday, September 25, 2012. Unintentional hybrids Part 2: Seed Saving gone WILD. Last year I wrote about what happened when I tried to save the seeds of my favorite pumpkins. This year, I ordered my seeds from a catalog. Winter Luxury Pie Pumpkin and Jaune Gros de Paris. I planted two of each, and they produced a sea of lily pad pumpkin leaves, which by August was studded with jewel-like orbs of Vitamin A. It makes me feel like my yard is a place where exciting things happen!

Adventures in Urban Homesteading: 09/2013 - 10/2013

Saturday, September 14, 2013. Happy Chicken Coop Tour! Today is the Twin Cities Annual Chicken Coop Tour. I think this is our fourth year on the tour. I'd hoped to get our coop remodel done by today, but what with starting a full time job and other distractions, we're only part way through. I'm sure Jeremy wishes we were done too! But the coop is certainly functioning and showable. Here's what we've been up to the last few weeks:. Windows in on the west and south walls:. Then dismantling the floor. Reade...

My Goals for 2010. GOAL: Get a Job! GOAL: Love my body. GOAL: Play with my family. GOAL: Connect with friends. GOAL: Make or appreciate art and music. 40 Days to Change. 8211; Searching for my calling. Posted on October 20, 2010. Today – I have read – is Love My Body Day. I’ve read some good posts on ways people want to love their bodies here. Including a stunning video by Joy Tanksley). I can feel the difference between cheap, scratchy yarn and . . . cashmere. Wow. I love the way my heart feels when I&#...

Tiny Happy (Urban) Farm: Unintentional Hybrids and other adventures in seed-saving
http://tinyhappyfarm.blogspot.com/2011/12/unintentional-hybrids-and-other.html
Tiny Happy (Urban) Farm. Tuesday, December 13, 2011. Unintentional Hybrids and other adventures in seed-saving. The GARDENING shelf at the library has a lot of books. And plenty of them with local/organic/sustainable/21st-century-hippie themes, as gardening lends itself to these interests. I am steadily chugging my way through all of these books, and inevitably trying a lot of the things I read about. That is pretty much how I ended up with chickens. Just think of them as big delicious seeds. The seeds w...

Tiny Happy (Urban) Farm: Caulifroccoli
http://tinyhappyfarm.blogspot.com/2012/11/caulifroccoli.html
Tiny Happy (Urban) Farm. Sunday, November 4, 2012. One of my "new" plants this year was purple cauliflower. I haven't grown cauliflower before, but not only is purple cauliflower a trendy (and spendy) veggie these days, I also read that it is supposedly easier to grow than white cauliflower. It likes cold weather and early planting, so they were started very early indoors and planted out in April. The only thing was there was very little cauliflower to be found. I let these plants just follow their joy a...

Tiny Happy (Urban) Farm: Mid Summer Report
http://tinyhappyfarm.blogspot.com/2011/07/midsummer-roundup-at-tiny-happy-farm-i.html
Tiny Happy (Urban) Farm. Thursday, July 21, 2011. Midsummer roundup at Tiny Happy Farm:. The one I had last year was bright orange, but its babies are every shade between yellow and red. Yay nature! The chickens get fluffier and fluffier :-) No eggs yet. The peppers are setting fruit in abundance, which is encouraging, as my peppers were mostly a flop last year. CAN YOU SEE all those tomato flowers? I don't thing this is even a cherry tomato plant! So mostly positive reviews from me. One mistake I di...

Tiny Happy (Urban) Farm: One-seed landscaping
http://tinyhappyfarm.blogspot.com/2011/03/one-seed-landscaping.html
Tiny Happy (Urban) Farm. Monday, March 28, 2011. Two years ago, we bought our first house. As summer approached, my first summer with my very own yard, one thing was clear to me: I needed to plant giant pumpkins. Was it because giant pumpkin cultivation was a life-long dream of mine, finally coming to fruition? I mean, why not! All you need is a couple seeds, which in the case of giant pumpkins, are REALLY BIG! When I took this picture, I thought these leaves were incredibly huge. Giant pumpkins are real...
