Saturday, 22 March 2008. A Good Friday Feast. Yesterday I started off by making Nigella's Hot Cross Buns. The texture is actually more of a scone type bun than a shop bought one, but rather tasty and delicious when toasted. After the buns were cooked I started on preparing a three course dinner as we had invited my parents around. Inspiration for the dinner came courtesy of Delicious Magazine. Sunday, 23 March 2008. Leftovers for lunch and burgers for dinner. We still have some of the cooked salmon in the fridge. I enjoyed a slice of it for lunch yesterday on a slice of toasted chilli bread. For dinner we couldn't decide what to have. It was one of those days when you know what you do not. Want So we ruled out pasta (had too much recently), rice, fish and chicken. I flicked through some books for inspiration and came across the LA Burger. Laquo; Summer Lentil Ragu. Yes, three or even four bean chilli would have sounded better but I forgot that we had other beans hidden away when it came to soaking time last night. We ended up with black beans and haricot beans which worked well anyway. The basic recipe is based on our recently tweaked chilli con carne. 4 tbsp olive oil. 2 red chillies, roasted, deseeded and pulped. 4 garlic cloves, roasted and then pulped. 15 tsp ground cumin. 3/4 tsp ground coriander. 3/4 tsp chipotle chilli powder.

Monday, August 31, 2009. Beet and chocolate cake. Here's a lovely squidgy beet and chocolate cake. I confess that sometimes I just make it without the beetroot because I can be bothered cooking them. Monday, October 4, 2010. Have been doing a recipe book cull today. The Gate cookbook made it thru on this recipe. Make up some mash, then add wasabi, butter, sesame seeds and salt. Mix thoroughly. Fry shallots in sesame oil, then add soy sauce after 5 mins. Now to shape your cakes. Using a food ring or round pastry cutter .put a layer of mash. Spoonful of shallot. Another layer of mash. Push the cake out of the ring. Flour the cake and fry in oil until crispy n brown on both sides. Comments for this post.
