Glaitness Class 3 2010/11. Thursday, 2 June 2011. On Tuesday we went on a hunt around the school grounds for minibeasts. We looked in the grass, under stones, in trees and bushes, on flowers, in the air and on walls. We found loads of different creatures and were amazed that so many of them lived right here in our own school grounds. We were very careful not to disturb any creatures that we found and always replaced the stones that we looked under. Is there anything hiding in here? Mrs Pettet and P3.

Glaitness Class 3 2010/11. Tuesday, 17 May 2011. Recently we went up to Muddisdale woods to see how easy it is to build a nest. We worked in pairs and used the same sort of things that birds would use. First we tried to find a suitable place to build our nests. A fork in the tree seemed a good place to start. We have two hands to work with but birds only have their beaks. It wasn't as easy as we thought. Our nests had to stay in place even when we gave the tree a little shake. Mrs Pettet and P3.

Glaitness Class 3 2010/11. Tuesday, 19 April 2011. Today we have all been very busy sowing sunflower seeds. It's hard to believe that something so small can grow into a large plant. We will have to look after them and make sure that they get enough, water and warmth to help them to grow. The compost was very dry so we had to give it a good soaking before we started. Take care not to spill any of it onto the floor. You have to concentrate and think about what you are doing. Mrs Pettet and P3.

In the museum at the visitor centre we saw some of the things that people would have used 5000 years ago. The heather looked lovely and comfortable. Long ago people used it to line their stone beds. International Education at Glaitness. Monday, 6 June 2011. We have had six American students in our school for two weeks. They are from Wisconsin and Minnesota. Today at assembly they told us about where they are from and a litle bit about their lives back home. Did you know that Orkney would fit into Wisconsin 166 times? Some of the students come from small towns and others from bigger cities. Perhaps you have heard of the famous American football team, 'The Green Bay Packers'. They won the Superbowl!

Friday, 9 May 2014. Class trip to Maeshowe, Skara Brae and Ring of Brodgar. We went a class trip to Maeshowe, Skara Brae and Ring of Brodgar to find out how people in the Stone Age lived. We learnt lots of interesting facts and had lots of fun exploring the different places. We also developed our skills in reasoning and enquiry. Kaylen got to go down into the houses at Skara Brae. Despite being a cold day, we all had lots of fun and learned lots about Neolithic people in Orkney. Saturday, 3 May 2014.

On Monday 5th January 2009, Miss King and Mini-Dylan came to visit the pupils from Cefn Fforest Primary who had begun the conversation with their friends 13,000 miles away at Appleby School, Nelson New Zealand. It was a chance to actually say hello face to face rather than over a Skype line with 11 hours difference between each other - actually to meet in the same time zone was fantastic.
