Listening Journal Blog: "Fantasia"---Carl Nielsen Clarinet Concerto

http://www.classicalperiodlistening.blogspot.com/2011/03/fantasia-carl-nielsen-clarinet-concerto.html

Tuesday, March 22, 2011. Fantasia"- -Carl Nielsen Clarinet Concerto. The piece started without heavy meaning, yet as the score become longer and more complicated,he was attracted by interesting connections of logistics from the work. He became serious on the logistics of the story telling and completes the concerto with abstractive ideas. I would like to present what went through Nielsen’s mind when he composes the piece. He was going back to the cage again. What happened there at the end?

Listening Journal Blog: Paulus – Felix Mendelssohn

Wednesday, February 23, 2011. Paulus – Felix Mendelssohn. Is one of his masterpiece. 160;    Paulus. As Mendelssohn’s first oratorio, may not be as famous as his later oratorios Elijah. Or The songs without words. 160;    Mendelssohn began Paulus. 160;    The most touching part of this masterpiece, with no doubt is the Aria Gott, sei mir gnädig nach deiner Güte. Translated as O , God, have Mercy. In my opinion, Mendelssohn is actually putting himself into Paulus. Does not have the weight of Elijah. 160;&...

Tuesday, April 5, 2011. Another batch of listening journals is up for your enjoyment, this time all from the time period of 1900-1945. One of the students approached her piece as though it were a part of Disney's Fantasia. So in that spirit, here is another early twentieth century work as imagined by the artists at Disney:. As usual, you can find links to the listening journals on the right hand side of the blog. Labels: Music from 1900-1945. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). About the 352 Blog. Beyond the Can...

http://352s.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

Friday, May 1, 2009. Listening Journals for Music Since 1945. We've finally reached the last day of classes in the spring 2009 semester, and so the students have just published their last listening journal. The music for this journal is perhaps the most unfamiliar to the students and to you, but offers a world of unique sounds, such as this clip from John Oswald's "Plunderphonics" version of Stravinsky's familiar Rite of Spring. You can read about Plunderphonics in several of the journals this time.
