Gross Stuff in L.A. Saturday, December 19, 2009. Gross Stuff.In Southeast Asia. Not so different after all! Translations into English are also perfect fodder for gross stuff. For instance, I nearly gagged at the possibility of eating a bowl full of the “cream of funny man” at an ice cream parlor in Quy Nhon. Please keep your children well clear of this “special” swimming pool in Toraja. But even grosser is this “sandwich” made out of “meat” and “veggies.”. It has been WAY too long. Saturday, December 05, 2009. So my apartment is what I affectionately refer to as "bug central station", which is what it is because there are no screens on the windows or doors. It's also kind of dingy looking, and definitely needs a fresh coat of paint. Leaking water has caused the paint to discolor (a lot) and previous residents have spilled things, written things, and generally left walls in serious need of new paint. If I were going to stay in Thanjavur longer, I'd search again for a nicer place....

Tuesday, August 17, 2010. Clearly I'm in the wrong line of business. If I were an entomologist, or bacteriologist I would be in heaven, and I don't even believe in heaven. It's been starting to rain again, and though I think it's quite early for the monsoon, I'm (mostly) not complaining because the rains bring much cooler temperatures, especially at night. Finally I can fall asleep before 5am, and sleep without sweating. Hallelujah! Unfortunately the rain also brings bugs (and news of superbugs). But bew...

Heck is very likely an eternity spent in transit, alternating 8 hours chunks sitting in a chair with 4 hour blocks browsing newstands in airport. But yeah.that's a little obvious. Can you believe it? Heating tank mounted and fuel in it, heating unit installed, plumbing started, electrical started, cabinets in, appliances moved inside! Last of August 12. Floor as you enter the house. All partitioning in the house is complete! Tomorrow we start the rough plumbing. Now I know what I will look like when I'm 80. More of August 12. Ok, these pictures are backwards in order. Oh well. 5 hours of sanding the floor creates a sandstorm in the house! The living room sanding begins.
