Notes from Japan

Here are a few notes, thoughts and updates from my time in Niigata, Japan. I'm here teaching English at a Junior High School in Joetsu. Thursday, July 17, 2008. It's time to say goodbye. I didn't know my konnichiwa from my karaoke when I came here, but I feel like I've given the language a fair crack. Some people say that the world is a book, and if you don't travel, you only read one page. I'm very glad to have read the Japanese page. I may even come back and re-read it sometime. Notes from Japan: Stinking in the rain

Here are a few notes, thoughts and updates from my time in Niigata, Japan. I'm here teaching English at a Junior High School in Joetsu. Friday, June 27, 2008. Stinking in the rain. May and June are a funny couple of months in Japan. April is a month of great change and upheaval - it's the end of the business year, the school year, and i. T's when cherry blossom arrives heralding sp. Ther - it drains their energy and it's really difficult to. Posted by Colin Macleod. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Notes from Japan: Where is the love?

http://www.colinmacleod.blogspot.com/2007/03/where-is-love.html

Here are a few notes, thoughts and updates from my time in Niigata, Japan. I'm here teaching English at a Junior High School in Joetsu. Wednesday, March 07, 2007. Where is the love? However, being stared at by most people you pass does make you feel a little uneasy and self-conscious. Also, the wonderful phrase “gaijin da! 8221; is a delight – literally “it’s an outsider! The more embarrassing form of love in the love – hate relationship is when people try and pair you off with one of their friends...

Here are a few notes, thoughts and updates from my time in Niigata, Japan. I'm here teaching English at a Junior High School in Joetsu. Friday, September 08, 2006. The pulpit in a Mosque is called a mini-bar. This is true. Except for the second i and the hyphen. Look, all I’m saying is that if I were Muslim, that’s how I’d remember it. Notes from Japan: New restaurant...well, to me at least

http://www.colinmacleod.blogspot.com/2008/04/new-restaurantwell-to-me-at-least.html

Here are a few notes, thoughts and updates from my time in Niigata, Japan. I'm here teaching English at a Junior High School in Joetsu. Sunday, April 20, 2008. New restaurant.well, to me at least. Yakiniku originated from traditional Korean barbecued beef dishes brought over by immigrants to the Kansai area of Japan. Red meat isn't a staple in Japanese cuisine, so a trip to the yakiniku shop is quite a treat. The Emperor Meiji himself was publicly observed eating meat in 1873 to promote beef consumption.

Notes from Japan: KODO

http://www.colinmacleod.blogspot.com/2007/05/kodo.html

Here are a few notes, thoughts and updates from my time in Niigata, Japan. I'm here teaching English at a Junior High School in Joetsu. Thursday, May 17, 2007. Now, I had written a big, waffle-filled blog entry about how good the taiko group Kodo are, but then I realised that it went on so long that even I got bored reading it. Much better to whack in a few pictu. The organisers of the festival are the Japanese drumming group, Kodo, whose training centre is on Sado Island. The timing is impeccable and fo...

Notes from the ‘shire. November 14, 2008. Inspired by the ever increasing number of blogs that I subscribe to, I’ve decided to take the plunge and subject the big wide world to my insignificant rants, musings and misgivings. Now, I’m not entirely sure how this blog is going to take shape, or even what I intend to write here. To try and get some focus, I’ve been looking through the blogs I currently subscribe to in order to see what kind of format I should be looking at. I like the idea of setting myself ...
