Erill Lab

Welcome to the Erill Lab. By ErillLab on April 10, 2013. As Robert Robbins* put it, the DNA sequence of an organism is the result of literally millions of maintenance revisions performed by the worst possible set of kludge using. Opportunistic hackers (i.e. evolution) who delight in clever tricks like writing self modifying code. And relying upon undocumented system quirks . As a result, deciphering molecular biology is the ultimate dream of a computer scientist. What’s cookin’?

Make your data more visible and accessible to researchers. Submit to CollecTF and have the TF-binding sites you identified displayed in NCBI RefSeq genomes for all the world to see! Suggest an article for curation. Know of a peer-reviewed publication describing experimentally-validated bacterial TF-binding sites that is not yet on our to-do list. Please let us know! Submit data using the curation wizard. Please check the submission guide. And also high-throughput submission guide. For the curation wizard.

CollecTF, a play on words using the French collectif [collective] and the acronym for transcription factor [TF], is a database of transcription factor binding sites (TFBS) in the Bacteria domain. CollecTF aims at becoming a reference, highly-accessed database by relying on its ability to customize navigation and data extraction, its relevance to the community, the quality and detail of the stored data and the up-to-date nature of the stored information. Reported binding sites are mapped to NCBI RefSeq.

CollecTF aims at becoming a comprehensive resource for bacterial TF-binding site information, but it is by no means alone. If you cannot find what you are looking for here, please check out the alternatives below. Model organism-based transcriptional regulation databases provide details on TF-binding sites, protein-protein interactions, metabolic networks and more. Check these out:. Domain-wide databases on prokaryotic TF-binding sites including manual curation and in silico predictions.

CollecTF is supported by the US National Science Foundation through grant MCB-1158056 and by the UMBC Office of Research through a Special Research Assistantship/Initiative Support (SRAIS) award. CollecTF is based on the collective effort of a fantastic and highly motivated team of dedicated curators without whom the database would be just well, empty. Check the curator roster. Integration with the NCBI RefSeq. Integration with the UniProt Knowledgebase. Submission of annotations to the Gene Ontology.
