Book Review: The Phoenix Project - Continuous Delivery
https://continuousdelivery.com/2013/01/book-review-the-phoenix-project
Skip to Main Content. Book Review: The Phoenix Project. Published 16 January 2013. I am not going to do a ton of book reviews on this blog (I have one more planned for next month). I’ll only bother posting reviews of books that I believe are both excellent and relevant to Continuous Delivery. This book easily satisfies both criteria. Full disclosure: Gene gave me a draft of this book for free for reviewing purposes. Follows the format of Eliyahu Goldratt’s classic, The Goal. The results are never pretty&...

Skip to Main Content. Videos from the Continuous Delivery track at QCon SF 2012. Published 25 May 2013. At last year's QCon San Francisco I got to curate a track on continuous delivery. One of the goals of the QCon conferences. How does continuous delivery affect the way we do product management? What's the business case for continuous delivery? How do you grow a culture that enables it? For an awesome conference. Changing Culture and Being a Force for Awesome. He is also co-founder of Velocity. In his c...
How To Create A More Diverse Tech Conference - Continuous Delivery
https://continuousdelivery.com/2013/09/how-we-got-40-female-speakers-at-flowcon
Skip to Main Content. How To Create A More Diverse Tech Conference. Published 26 September 2013. I have been advised by people I trust that it's not a good idea to talk about how you got serious female representation at your conference until after it's over. However the shameful RubyConf "binders full of men". Step 0. Care About The Outcome. And that was pretty hard work, so I wanted to be sure I had the correct motivation. The FlowCon program committee came up with was this: "Diversity: We believe the t...
Continuous Delivery vs Continuous Deployment - Continuous Delivery
https://continuousdelivery.com/2010/08/continuous-delivery-vs-continuous-deployment
Skip to Main Content. Continuous Delivery vs Continuous Deployment. Published 13 August 2010. Timothy Fitz's blog entry. On continuous deployment came out over a year before Dave and I published our book on continuous delivery. So why did we choose a different name? Is there actually a difference or are we just being bloody-minded? We decided to call the book. Continuous deployment is the practice of releasing every good build to users - a more accurate name might have been "continuous release". This in ...
Continuous Delivery: The Case of Apple - Continuous Delivery
https://continuousdelivery.com/2012/10/continuous-delivery-the-case-of-apple
Skip to Main Content. Continuous Delivery: The Case of Apple. Published 04 October 2012. The case of Apple sometimes comes up in discussions around continuous delivery and the lean startup. For example, Richard Durnall. To me on Twitter as follows:. Brilliant and unwavering product vision from a few amazing folks going to market infrequently with huge ceremony. Exhibit A is the Apple I. A great example of a minimum viable product. Caption id="attachment 712" align="aligncenter" width="512"]. This example...

use case driven: August 2013

Cause it's the key factor (for what we do.). Monday, 19 August 2013. A zoom on the hexagonal/clean/onion architecture. Some very costly (and risky) situations for those applications when we need to replace a former messaging technology they were using, by a better (and less risky) one. Apart from being a new buzzword, what's the hexagonal architecture concretely? In that model there is no such thing as 'front-end' (users interactions) or 'back-end' (db) anymore, but two primary areas instead: the inside.

2013 A new year, a new website. Book review and interview. Second edition - coming soon. As the book is somewhat limited in page count I was not able to cover as much as I would have liked. That said, there is a wealth of information available if you know where to look. This page has been included to contain links to external reference materials (websites, blogs, reading materials, etc) which complement the book and should give the reader other avenues to find the information they are looking for. Continuous Deployment (CITCON 2010)
http://www.dafydd.net/archive/2010/continuous-deployment
Continuous Deployment (CITCON 2010). Some brief notes from the continuous deployment discussion at Citcon Europe 2010:. Mention of Martin Fowler’s “continuous integration page” Apparently the original idea was to go all the way through to production. Political limitations and compromises meant that was limited to developer-controlled part of the process. 2 weeks now seems like a long time to wait for a release to live. Granularity of change affects how quickly/easily a change can be deployed. Blog post: ...

In general, since I was in graduate school, when I came across The Visual Display of Quantitative Information. Continuous Deployment
Safe automatic deployment of frequent small commits. There's a reason the definition starts with safety. safety first! Groan Sorry. Seriously, Continuous Deployment is first and foremost about providing a safety net so that code can be deployed without painful accidents. Deploying automatically sounds incredibly stressful but the reality is that deployment stops becoming stressful. When you're deploying without injury several times a day, deploying actually becomes soothing! Want to learn more?
