Cranberry Cocktail | The Historic Oven
https://cookbooktimemachine.wordpress.com/2014/04/16/cranberry-cocktail
Cooking my way through the decades. I coulda had a V8 – Tomato Cocktails. Let’s Have Some Canapes, Part One →. This one was two recipes for me, due to what I did with the leftovers. Cook 2 cups cranberries in 3 cups water until skins pop; strain. Cook 1/2 cup sugar with juice until dissolved (about 2 min). Chill and add a little lemon juice, half as much ginger ale, or unsweetened pineapple juice (to taste). Serve cold in glasses. Serves 8. And it looks pretty, as well! April 16, 2014.
Broiled Grapefruit | The Historic Oven

Cooking my way through the decades. I coulda had a V8 – Tomato Cocktails →. We’re off to a good start! So says Betty Crocker. Let’s move on to Cocktails, or “popular curtain-raisers to the dinner.”. I’ve omitted some of the more simple “recipes,” such as a Fresh Strawberry Plate, which consists of putting strawberries on a plate with confectioners’ sugar. Our next endeavor is Broiled Grapefruit. Why, yes, it DOES look like boobs! Interestingly enough, this is supposed to be an appetizer, and I was going ...

Cooking my way through the decades. Let’s Have Some Canapes, Part Two →. Let’s Have Some Canapes, Part One. Canapes are supposed to be “gracefully” eaten with the fingers. Now, these are all “appetizers,” but back then, everything was fancy, even if it came from a can! There are quite a few savory bites listed here, of which I have made two so far. One was good, the other . . . well, what can I say? 1 Savory Mushroom Canapes. See my pretty square plate? I bought it just for this project! They look like &...
Sounds like a medical problem . . . | The Historic Oven
https://cookbooktimemachine.wordpress.com/2014/11/26/sounds-like-a-medical-problem
Cooking my way through the decades. Let’s Have Some Canapes, Part Two. Sounds like a medical problem . . . Would you care for a topical ointment for your Green Balls? This is not a joke; that is the real name of the next appetizer on The Historic Oven. Mix together 1/2 cup grated Swiss cheese, 1/2 cup minced cooked ham, 1/2 tsp. prepared mustard, 1 egg yolk, 1/4 tsp. salt, dash of pepper. Form into balls. Roll in minced chives or parsley. Not the best idea in the world. Not horrible, but meh. Let’s...

Cooking my way through the decades. Let’s Have Some Canapes, Part One. Sounds like a medical problem . . . →. Let’s Have Some Canapes, Part Two. Oh, hey, it’s been a while! How have you been, reader? I’ve been . . . lazy! No, not really, just haven’t been cooking weird things, I guess. I will be making something later today that I shall post this week. In the meantime, here’s another appetizer I made back in June and never posted! I would make these again! November 2, 2014. Betty crocker picture cook book.
