Danielle in Brazil: Back to Blogging
http://daniellebrazil.blogspot.com/2015/01/back-to-blogging.html
Wednesday, January 21, 2015. All right, all right. I've made a goal to start blogging more. It's good for my brain and my emotional well-being and all that. I thought about making this post about general updates but I don't really have that much to say. 2014 coasted along and things went well overall. I'm still teaching and translating, going to the gym, spending most of my free time at home with Alexandre and Gatinha. Let me go through my pictures to remind myself of what else went on:. I didn't get a v...

Goodbye Brazil | O Jeito Brasileiro

Skip to main content. Skip to secondary content. Brazil through the eyes of a Local girl from Hawaii. The transition →. August 2, 2012. I took this photo awhile ago, as I knew it was the photo I wanted to use. In Hawaii when you’re done you say you are Pau! Friday end of day is Pau Hana time. In Portuguese Pau is wood, or well slang for the male anatomy. But in Hawaii it means you are done. So that we are, we are done with Brasil. Everyone asks, “Oh what will you miss? Posted in Expat Life. I'm just anot...

Danielle in Brazil: April 2013
http://daniellebrazil.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Friday, April 19, 2013. They have little stations around the gym for different exercises. The station I use the most is essentially just a desk with an arm rest and these torture devices:. Those tools look innocent enough, but if you don't have full use of your hand and if your arm muscles can't lift more than 500 grams without getting sore and inflamed, these tools can become very daunting. Sounds like nothing, but it hurts if you have a metal plate on the bend of your wrist. The movement I lost hasn't ...

Tuesday, October 22, 2013. The Old Gyno and My Life Decisions. Thanks for all the nice comments on the post about my grandma. I went back to work yesterday and am getting back into my routine and keeping myself busy. It certainly helps. Don't put them in women who haven't already been pregnant! OK, if women who are fully aware of all of the risks of a procedure trust it in their own bodies, what does that tell you? Just in case that was implied somehow when I told her I've been in a monogamous relationsh...

Danielle in Brazil: Tips for Traveling to Manaus
http://daniellebrazil.blogspot.com/2014/01/tips-for-traveling-to-manaus.html
Friday, January 3, 2014. Tips for Traveling to Manaus. Are you going to Manaus? Thinking about traveling to Manaus? Considering a trip to Manaus for the World Cup? When planning my trip to Manaus, I learned how little information was available on the internet, and how much information we had to get on the ground, once we were there. I, as a non-Brazilian, feel so uncomfortable having vacations like that! So I'm going to share lots of tips with you, dear reader. The pictures make it look nicer than it is.

Danielle in Brazil: December 2013
http://daniellebrazil.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, December 18, 2013. Dolphins and Indigenous People in the Amazon. As I mentioned on my pre-Manaus-trip post, there is an amazing bird that only exists in this region of the world. It's called a cock of the rock, or galo-da-serra. In Portuguese. It's not in any zoo (legally, at least) because it has never survived or reproduced in captivity. This is one of the only places I can see it. Akin to my dream of seeing the mot mot in the Pantanal. After our day trip to the Meeting of the Waters. As we ...

Danielle in Brazil: August 2013

Monday, August 19, 2013. Teacher vs. Friend. Have you heard of Jennifer Pastiloff. She's a writer and a yoga teacher in LA. She's an excellent writer - she writes about life, about being a better person, about a lot of different topics. I love following her articles and posts on her website and her Facebook page. Anyway, sometimes she writes for a website called Positively Positive. She wrote a post. Today (read it here. But it's contradicted by the relief on my student's face. I also have to decide whet...
