Whipped Lemon Butter | Cooking with Kool-Aid

https://cookingwithkoolaid.wordpress.com/2013/11/11/whipped-lemon-butter

A culinary adventure through the pages of Kool-Aid Comes of Age. I have to admit, this is one of the recipes in the book that gave me pause when I first saw leafed through it. I get the punches and sauces and freezes and all that. But Whipped Lemon Butter? I mean who even knows where to buy lemons? And I’m not even going to mention what housewives had to deal with during the Great Lemon Shortage of the early 1970s. (The produce lines stretched for miles.). Lemon butter is literally lemon and butter!

Double Berry Sauce | Cooking with Kool-Aid

https://cookingwithkoolaid.wordpress.com/2013/10/06/double-berry-sauce

A culinary adventure through the pages of Kool-Aid Comes of Age. So this seemed like a good time to try the Double Berry Sauce recipe from the Stir-ins and Pour-Ons. Section of the book. As with all of the other very simple recipes-that-are-barely-recipes in this section, Double Berry Sauce requires the depositing of some sugar-sweetened Kool-Aid into some other food product. In this case, I dumped some Strawberry Kool-Aid into a can of whole cranberries. And IT IS INCREDIBLY SWEET! Pingback: Cooking wit...

Sour Cream Dip | Cooking with Kool-Aid

A culinary adventure through the pages of Kool-Aid Comes of Age. After last week’s disastrous Fruit and Nut Cheese Ball. We are reluctantly returning to the Party Ideas. Section of the book. You’d be so lucky to have guests return to your party that quickly after serving them that cheesy abomination. This week we are going in for a recipe that could have very well been included in the Stir-ins and Pour-ons. And to a lesser degree, in the Hits-the-Spot Punch. Whenever I make simple stuff like this I alway...

Citrus-flavored Yogurt | Cooking with Kool-Aid

https://cookingwithkoolaid.wordpress.com/2013/12/14/citrus-flavored-yogurt

A culinary adventure through the pages of Kool-Aid Comes of Age. I can’t decide how Kool-Aid Comes of Age. Was put together. On one hand I think they started with very simple ideas for recipes, sticking to the obvious punches and drinks. But maybe those were too obvious. Of course a Kool-Aid cookbook is going to have drink recipes. Maybe they just went full-on adventurous, dreaming grand dreams like brave culinary visionaries, and started with the pies and the desserts and the main courses. Cut to two we...

Half-n-half Fruit Cobbler | Retro Recipe Attempts

https://retrorecipe.wordpress.com/2015/08/10/half-n-half-fruit-cobbler

Tasting the fare of yesteryear, the disastrous and the delicious. Posted by: Erica Retrochef. August 10, 2015. We got some leftover and rather bruised peaches last week at the farmers’ market. This is the best part about shopping regularly with the same vendor: after some time, they’ll start giving you discounts or throwing in free food. And so we had an unexpected need to make a peach cobbler. Half Peach ‘n Half Plum Blueberry Cobbler. Mix together 1-1/3 cups. Place between 2 sheets of waxed paper (12-i...

If you’re thinking of bringing something unique to whatever family reunion or other outdoor gathering you’ve got coming up, think about Bacon and Olive Rolls. 1/2 lb thinly sliced bacon. 4 dozen stuffed spanish olives. 1 dozen hot rolls. Sausage Noodle Bake | Retro Recipe Attempts

Tasting the fare of yesteryear, the disastrous and the delicious. Posted by: Erica Retrochef. August 3, 2015. Did you have a nice summer break? But school’s about to start up and so we’re back from vacations and back to the blogging. Let’s jump right in with this not-very-colorful casserole from PET Milk. One of the things that immediately caught my eye about it is that it almost exactly matches my typical style: ingredients photo at the top, blather in the middle, and assembled photo at the end! Lactose...

Cooking with Kool-Aid

A culinary adventure through the pages of Kool-Aid Comes of Age. People still drink punch, right? Not like at real parties or anything, but I bet it still gets served at office parties. My last punch was at a middle school dance I helped chaperone. One of the stay at home moms (who also seemed to be a stay out of the kitchen mom) dumped a bunch of Sprite into a gigantic bowl and then floated a plastic bucket-shaped iceberg of generic rainbow sherbert in the middle. It wasnot great. I always wondered when...
