A Finer Thing: My Idea of Fast Food #4
http://afinerthing.blogspot.com/2013/02/my-idea-of-fast-food-4.html
Thursday, February 21, 2013. My Idea of Fast Food #4. Today was one harried day, booked solid and punctuated by a sputtering car that couldn't be driven home and gifted wagyu ground beef that I had foolishly allowed to become of questionable safety. My precious dinner, that restorative of my soul planned with loving care, was threatened. Then I remembered a good trick for times like these: the Italian egg sandwich. Adapted from Giada De Laurentiis. 2 teaspoons olive oil. 1 garlic clove, cut. Heat the oil...

The Trash Salad: Loaded Veggie Cream Cheese
http://thetrashsalad.blogspot.com/2013/06/loaded-veggie-cream-cheese.html
Tuesday, June 11, 2013. Loaded Veggie Cream Cheese. Two recent and disappointing bagel experiences have driven me back into the realm of kitchen experimentation and bloggery. Different days, different Hoboken bagel-specific establishments. Disappointing to the point where the convenience of the on-the-way-to-work breakfast pickup is now outweighed by the significant potential for negative surprise induced by opening the bag. Are we entering a new world of cream cheese homogeneity and chunk skimpage?

The Trash Salad: August 2011
http://thetrashsalad.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
Tuesday, August 16, 2011. Thoughts on the NYTimes Turning Trash into Dinner. The New York Times's latest feature on "stem-to-root" style eating. Was forwarded to me by several people last week and, indeed, it was right up my alley. While I love that this topic is trendy enough to be given a lead in the Style section, it was odd and kind of off-putting that it was framed as such a novel concept (wait, what? You can eat the skins on potatoes. New ideas for preserves:. The target audience for this article:.

A Finer Thing: Tools Chosen and Found
http://afinerthing.blogspot.com/2013/02/tools-chosen-and-found.html
Friday, February 8, 2013. Tools Chosen and Found. Well, the first month of the new year is well over, and it's time to assess my resolutionary progress, because monitoring helps, according to Roy F. Baumeister and John Tierney, the authors of a book called. That jumped into my hands at Half Price Books over Christmas break. In some studies, folks who regularly checked on their behavior or received regular feedback about it made more significant changes than those who didn't. So here goes. Not winning at ...

A Finer Thing: Aggrandized Oatmeal
http://afinerthing.blogspot.com/2013/03/aggrandized-oatmeal.html
Thursday, March 28, 2013. On those Saturday mornings when my insistent desire to have something different from the daily granola clashes with my fatigue or laziness, I fall back on a little something I call Aggrandized Oatmeal. Cook up rolled oats the usual way. Nothing interesting happening yet. Afterward I can go back to the couch or stare at the sky and forget the laundry for a while longer, feeling virtuous about breakfast at least. Luxury and virtue. A delightful combination for a weekend morning.

My Idea of Paradise: I Love Shopping From Home
http://myideaofparadise.blogspot.com/2011/01/i-love-shopping-from-home.html
My Idea of Paradise. Share laugh. think. be inspired. Friday, January 7, 2011. I Love Shopping From Home. Let's say you want a garlic press. You're tired of holding those little cloves of garlic on the cutting board while you mince them. You want a nice one that works well and is comfortable to hold. You don't need it right this moment, but it would be nice to have it soon, so that it's handy when the urge to make stir fry strikes. Is there any contest here? Less time running errands. Example of items I ...

My Idea of Paradise: Paradise
http://myideaofparadise.blogspot.com/2010/12/paradise.html
My Idea of Paradise. Share laugh. think. be inspired. Saturday, December 4, 2010. Does the word conjure up the palm tree studded tropical beach scene for you? Why is that the typical answer? If we could have it, would we really be happiest lounging around on poolside recliners while sipping fruity drinks? Or is that just what we're told is the best, so we assume it to be true? Have you ever peeked behind the magic curtain, so to speak, to see how the natives of those places really live? By Eric Weiner, i...
