Cooks with Skipper

Well, it's been a while kids, but I am now checking in with the folks after living three months in România. I was perusing the meat aisle at the Carrefour at Piață Unirii, and was wondering why this hunk of meat was so cheap (ca. $0.60). Then I realized it was half a pig's head. I literally laughed out loud (LOLed), and said to myself, "You're buying this even if you're going to throw it out your window onto the street when it starts to stink up your fridge.". I salted its head like a hater. After-note: ...

Cooks with Skipper: What?! Do I Look Korean?

http://cookwskipper.blogspot.com/2013/05/what-do-i-look-korean.html

Do I Look Korean? No No I don't, but that didn't deter the kids at various east coast and southern elementary schools sometimes telling me that my lunches smelled like gook food when my ma would pack something Vietnamese in the lunchbox. I didn't know the meaning until I asked my brother what it meant. I won't go into the Maryland teacher telling me that maybe I shouldn't "act that way.". Whisk together the following ingredients:. 3 tbsp sesame oil. 1 tbsp white vinegar. 2 clv garlic - minced. The origin...

I set upon it:. Melt 2 tbs butter. Brown 1 lb of ground beef. Remove beef and saute:. 2 small red onions. All diced, ja? Blend your own tomato puree (5 tomatoes) and toss together with the sauted vegetables into a pot. Add browned beef, cider vinegar, brown sugar, garlic &. Salt, pepper, and cayenne. Bring to a boil, reduce, and simmer on low-medium heat for 30 mins. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Simple template. Powered by Blogger.

Cooks with Skipper: April 2012

http://cookwskipper.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

For a while Farm Fresh to You was delivering a load of leeks with every delivery. I'd mostly added them to my broths because it really punches up the flavor of them. They also work well in a few different soups, light and heavy. The most basic is the potato-leek soup:. 1 stalk of leek. 2 minces cloves of garlic. 4 small potatoes diced. 6 cups vegetable broth. Chopped chive to garnish. Season to taste with salt/pepper. Warm pot to melt butter and saute leek and garlic. Add potato and thyme and season.

Cooks with Skipper: May 2012

Not being one who enjoys a tale being spun straight to his face, I understandably got back home still enraged. The Skipper rage, as always, was short-lived, and I was made the fool once I looked up goetta (pronounced "gedda") and found that it is indeed real. It's only massed produced and distributed around Cincinnati in the form of packaged tubes. There are even vending machines. That you can buy it out of. Maybe that's just for Goettafest though. 1 lb ground beef. 1 lb ground pork. 5 c steel-cut oats.

Liv Moe: September 2012

http://livmoe.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html

Thursday, September 6, 2012. I've encountered some epic bathrooms as of late. These days repurposing parking spaces is becoming all the rage. It's not possible for it to be dirty! Spotted at a bar in Folsom. This "height chart" had all kinds of cute nicknames on it like Miss K, and Sweetie, oh and "Slutty Lady," perhaps the most endearing pet name of all. For the record SL was the tallest of the crew. Posted by Liv Moe. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Liv Moe: This Old House

http://livmoe.blogspot.com/2012/08/this-old-house.html

Tuesday, August 7, 2012. It's pretty unbelievable that last Friday night I was partying in Oakland with hoards of people. And by Saturday morning I was back in Sac tearing apart our front room and converting it into an office. In order to spare myself the embarrassment I'm not posting the actual before pic and am instead starting with the total accumulation of the contents of the front room's book shelves stacked en masse. It's possible we may need more books. Posted by Liv Moe. The Bridge to Somewhere!

Liv Moe: May 2014

http://livmoe.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Wednesday, May 7, 2014. This afternoon at 4:40pm my little Bud will be going away. He's been my friend for 3 months shy of 10 years. OMF and I adopted him from a shelter in Santa Rosa where he had been waiting for a home for over a month due to his dog aggression, small benign tumor on his left eyelid, and what we later came to find out was a wicked case of heart worm. Verge's big dinner is in three days which seems completely impossible. Holding it together when all I really want to do is spend time...

Liv Moe: February 2013

http://livmoe.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

Sunday, February 3, 2013. My post regularity is crap these days for reasons I won't go into now except to say that blogging has felt like a bridge too far for some months, neigh years, as is apparent by the slow down in posts. What might bring me out of quasi-retirement besides images of some of my favorite bathrooms? And my desire to record this recipe before it vanishes in a puff of smoke. 2 lbs venison cubed (word on the street is that it can be found at whole foods if you don't know a hunter).
