May 2016 – cosmic donut
https://cosmicdonut.wordpress.com/2016/05
Why I Do Cloth Diapers. My 81 year old Filipino Grandma hangs crinkly and yellowed zip lock bags and latex gloves to drip dry in the garage. She rescues every empty yogurt and takeout container from the recycling bin for indefinite reuse. She only uses napkins, straws, and condiments acquired from fast food places. She yells at us when we try to throw away stale bread saying: “NAKO! If you throw food away you won’t be BLESSED! My grandma thinks that I’m too cheap. I use cloth diapers. I started using clo...
Real Beauty is Modesty-Part 2 – cosmic donut
https://cosmicdonut.wordpress.com/2016/06/18/real-beauty-is-modesty-part-2
Real Beauty is Modesty-Part 2. For women, real beauty is modesty. This statement is from a book I’m reading and there is something that bothers me about that statement. I can imagine the author seeing someone in reveling clothing, like an actress on T.V who is dressed less-than-modestly, and then saying Remember, real beauty is modesty as if she has to override her natural tendency to think that that woman is beautiful. Well, I think I can do better. Foremost, I would say, She is pretty! June 18, 2016.
June 2016 – cosmic donut
https://cosmicdonut.wordpress.com/2016/06
Real Beauty is Modesty: Part 3. Are we morally obligated to other people to dress a certain way? In my opinion, as long as someone has their basic hygiene met so that they are not emanating an odor into others’ personal space that’s all other people really owe the world. What about in church? Aren’t women morally obligated to dress modestly? After all, if a women were to wear reveling clothing to church it could distract men and then they would not be able to concentrate on the service. No one understands me! – cosmic donut
https://cosmicdonut.wordpress.com/2016/08/18/no-one-understands
No one understands me! No one understands me! As adults, we may think that this statement belongs back in the days of junior high. Something blurted from the depths of a tortured adolescent soul before stomping upstairs to the bedroom and slamming the door. It’s a something that is written a heart-covered pink diary with a miniature lock on the side. Hey, guess what? This thought, No one understands me? What can we do about it? We are adults now. We are so much more. Than we were back then. Stomping?
Put yourself out there – cosmic donut
https://cosmicdonut.wordpress.com/2016/10/06/put-yourself-out-there
Put yourself out there. I wrote an article about breastfeeding. I dropped the F-bomb a lot. It turned out really ridiculous. I don’t want to pass fighting to others. What do I want to pass to others? Know who you are, the kind of person you want to be, and then go out there and do your best no matter what happens. Living your values in life is just like breastfeeding. Literally, all you can do is take your boobs out in front of God and everyone and do it. October 6, 2016. October 6, 2016. Real Beauty is ...

Escaping Mental Quicksand | Meditation and Mindfulness
https://intentionalmindfulness.wordpress.com/2015/01/20/escaping-mental-quicksand
Personal Insights on Meditation and Mindfulness. January 20, 2015. You’re playing and you think everything is going fine. Then one thing goes wrong. And then another. And another. You try to fight back, but the harder you fight, the deeper you sink. Until you can’t move… you can’t breathe… because you’re in over your head. Like quicksand. How can the quicksand be escaped, or better still, avoided? First, some of the signs that tell me I’m heading in that direction:. Where ever you might find yourself, wh...

Ujjayi Breathing for Beginners | Meditation and Mindfulness
https://intentionalmindfulness.wordpress.com/2014/11/09/ujjayi-breathing-for-beginners
Personal Insights on Meditation and Mindfulness. Ujjayi Breathing for Beginners. November 9, 2014. Ujjayi, or Ocean Sound breathing is a foundational breath in yoga. In my experience this breathing technique can be used on its own or in combination with other breathing techniques. Ujjayi breathing has a calming, centering effect on the mind, body and emotions. Benefits of Ujjayi breathing:. Complete exchange of air in the lung. That leads to oxygenating the blood. Releases tension in chest and abdomen.

Personal Insights on Meditation and Mindfulness. Dhirgha Breathing for Beginners. October 21, 2014. Dhirgha breath is a foundational breath in yoga. Called the 3 part breath, full yogic breath, three dimensional breath or complete breath among others I’m sure. I prefer to call it the three part breath because it’s generally led by describing three distinct areas of the body being filled. Image courtesy of currikiblog.wordpress.com. Some other benefits include:. Calms the mind and emotions. When shouldn’t...

Enlightenment – The Selfish Path to Selflessness | Meditation and Mindfulness
https://intentionalmindfulness.wordpress.com/2015/04/01/enlightenment-the-selfish-path-to-selflessness
Personal Insights on Meditation and Mindfulness. Enlightenment The Selfish Path to Selflessness. April 1, 2015. Most of the time those on the path to enlightenment are looked upon with a mixture of reverence and expectation. Reverence because most view this path as one of a higher spiritual calling. Expectation because at least anecdotally enlightened people tend to give back, support and encourage the best in others. Was Buddha (or any other enlightened person) selfish? My first reaction is yes, they ar...

The Beauty of Death – Savasana | Meditation and Mindfulness
https://intentionalmindfulness.wordpress.com/2014/12/12/the-beauty-of-death-savasana
Personal Insights on Meditation and Mindfulness. The Beauty of Death Savasana. December 12, 2014. A lot has been written about Savasana and its importance to a yoga practice. The time to integrate, absorb and make space for the work done during a practice is crucial to physical/emotional/spiritual growth. That time of rest allows the body and mind to reset and adjust to or find new changes. Image courtesy of { lillith }. This integration time is key to yoga. But does it have to be unique to yoga? I did a...

Personal Insights on Meditation and Mindfulness. The Power of Presence Creating Connection. March 18, 2015. I don’t think so. I have found some of the best benefits of being present are in the mundane of daily life. Yes, being present may fire up your sex life, it can help you improve your health and at some point you may be able to drop the illusions of time and space and teleport anywhere you want, read minds and fly. Until then, being present has other benefits to offer. With phones, tablets, televisi...

cosmic donut – Adventures in mindfulness
Why did I name my blog Cosmic Donut? Because I like donuts. I especially like their roundness. They are round like so many things in the universe. I’m not just talking about round objects-rocks, wheels or whatever. I’m talking about roundness as a force. The force of things to tend toward a center. Why don’t we fall off the earth? I hope my blog will offer delicious bites of writing that speaks to the soul. Even though we are a small, we are part of the whole in everything we do. Put yourself out there.
