Little House in the Big 'Burbs: February 2010
http://littlehouseinthebigburbs.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, February 20, 2010. Madrona Fiber Arts Festival 2010. Venue for last weekend's fiber festival: Hotel Murano in Tacoma, WA. About an hour's drive from the big 'burbs- - the hotel takes it decor theme from the nearby Tacoma Glass Museum. Digs for the weekend: (And I'm certain the Tied Up sign refers to yarn and yarn endeavors, of course.). View from floor 23: Downtown district and Puget Sound. (Good grief- - when the sun is shining in Seattle, I daresay there's no prettier place.). Marta's awesome...

Little House in the Big 'Burbs: April 2010
http://littlehouseinthebigburbs.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Tuesday, April 13, 2010. The button wall at Tricoter. In Seattle: one of my favorite destinations within one of my favorite destinations. It could very well be Disneyland to me. A visit to the button wall means that I've recently completed a knitted item. Beth. Instead of the originally intended Pagan. Hopefully, it will be a versatile piece. With help from Ola, I settled on these horn buttons and decided to apply them with the wrong side facing out. I love my local yarn store ;). Posted by The Big Burbs.

Little House in the Big 'Burbs: November 2009
http://littlehouseinthebigburbs.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
Thursday, November 19, 2009. Knot Hysteria" Port Ludlow Retreat. Wow, so much to say about this. Okay, so I'll start with the glittering overview and get more into the "knitty gritty" over the next couple of posts:. And I were among the 40 lucky knitters that were granted a weekend of mentoring under two of Knitting's Greats: Stephanie Pearl McPhee- author, knitter, humorist, and Tina Newton-master dyer and founder of Blue Moon Fiber Arts. If I had to describe Knot Hysteria. See what I mean? Just finishe...

Little House in the Big 'Burbs: Coming into one's own.
http://littlehouseinthebigburbs.blogspot.com/2009/02/im-just-tired-of-wrong-answers.html
Monday, February 23, 2009. Coming into one's own. Flashback two years. We are hopeful, but wary. Our son sits quietly with us in an interview we've set up with a new school. We've spoken with the admissions counselor and now it's Nathan's turn to speak. Nathan was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder at the age of three. Our effort to ensure his education within our local school system was a six year battle that culminated into one awful moment for our son. Let's go home now," I said. You were two yea...

Little House in the Big 'Burbs: July 2009
http://littlehouseinthebigburbs.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, July 30, 2009. Sisters of the Fiber. Hosting my girlfriend Kelly from Montana and her four girls last week made me feel like resident Mom to a Fiber Sorority House- - and of course I loved every minute of it. The first thing the girls did when they woke up each morning was head straight for the roving and yarn. Chloe was completely obsessed with "the fluff":. Collette took to weaving so well, she wove an entire six foot runner off of the loom in just a matter of a few days! It was such a great ...

Little House in the Big 'Burbs: May 2009
http://littlehouseinthebigburbs.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
Friday, May 22, 2009. Is this the little girl I carried? Is this the little boy at play? I don't remember growing older. when did they? Colby's 4th grade class sang selections from. Fiddler on the Roof. As part of a Broadway-themed (no complaints from me) Mother's Day tea a few weeks ago. If those lyrics hadn't struck a chord with me at the tea, they certainly did yesterday. It really went by too quickly. In just three short years, she'll be choosing a college to attend. And in four. Gulp. Imagine that, ...

Little House in the Big 'Burbs: Go big or go home...
http://littlehouseinthebigburbs.blogspot.com/2010/03/knitting-conundrums.html
Tuesday, March 16, 2010. Go big or go home. I did not participate in the 2010 Knitting Olympics. That ended a few short weeks ago because honestly, I didn't see the point of enduring the stress of that kind of "self-imposed" knitting deadline. I mean, couldn't we knitters just relax, enjoy the spectacle of the Olympics and leave it at that? Yes, I completely snubbed the Knitting Olympics. And then. I'd started for myself before the shower invitation had arrived:. Then yesterday, while finalizing travel a...

Little House in the Big 'Burbs: Penelope's Web: anything perpetually doing but never done.

After a quick re-reading on Wikipedia, I realize that the Greek mythological tradition makes a pretty good expository on a whole range of human emotion and motivation. Well duh, I guess the word.

Little House in the Big 'Burbs: December 2009
http://littlehouseinthebigburbs.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Thursday, December 31, 2009. I'm leaving yarn-dyeing to the professionals (and 7 other things I learned at Knot Hysteria). I realize Knot Hysteria. Details (see next pic) and all. Actually, I made several attempts over the past few weeks to write this, but I kept getting out of control and ending up with drafts that were way, way too long and too wordy. So here it is, my best shot at encapsulating KH, once and for all. 2) My personal motto from here on out: "buy it, don't dye it.". 4) I learned that the ...
